Affordable Date Night Ideas

February 3, 2017

Do you and your significant other ever sit around and wonder, what should we do tonight?  Colton and I live in a city full of things to do, but too often are guilt of saying that there is nothing.  With Valentines Day rapidly approaching, I wanted to share a few affordable date night ideas,

Dinner and a movie (at home)

love you more too north dallas blogger plano lifestyle blogger foodie healthy date night pizza recipe trader joesGo to your local grocery store and pick up the ingredients to make a pizza at home (dough, sauce, mozzarella cheese, meat, and veggies). Check out my favorite at home pizza recipe here. Open a bottle of wine and have fun making your perfect pizza, then cuddle up to a good movie on Netflix. Don’t forget dessert!

Groupon fun date

Check out the “things to do” tab (under local) on Groupon and plan a date night that you have never been on before.  Grab discount tickets to a cooking class, test your brain in an escape room, catch a comedy show, or try your putt at mini golf.

All of the chocolate

Sablon Chocolate Lounge Dallas Food Blogger Love You More Too

Grab a sweet dessert from a fancy restaurant after dinner.  If you are in Dallas, you can try Sablon chocolate lounge in Uptown near West Village and share a delicious, decadent chocolate dessert for under $15.

Romantic picnic

Pack a picnic basket and blanket and head to your nearest river, lake, beach, or pool.  If you aren’t close to any of those, grab a spot under a large tree.  Dallas readers, White Rock Lake is perfect for a sunset picnic.  You can feed the ducks, watch the boats on the water, then go for a sunset walk along the lake.

Ice cream tasting

Celebration cake

Similar to the dessert idea, hit up a local ice cream shop and try all of the new flavors.  More specialty ice cream parlors are opening up across the globe, so why not give them a taste?  If you are in Dallas, make an appointment at Ice Cream Wasted‘s boozy ice cream tasting room.

Rock climbing

love you more too north dallas blogger plano lifestyle blogger fitness blogger canyons rock climbing gym
If you don’t live near the mountains, find a local climbing gym and plan an active date.  Cheer each other on and encourage one another while strengthening your arm muscles.  Rock climbing is a fun activity that can easily be turned in to a date.

Progressive dinner

Instead of grabbing dinner all at one place, find a spot you can easily walk from restaurant to restaurant for a progressive dinner. Grab a drink and appetizers at the first restaurant, then walk to the next spot for dinner.  Finally, end with dessert at a third restaurant.  The best part of progressive dinners is that you can try several different places all in one night.

Sweat together

Get your endorphins flowing and catch a workout class together.  The couple that sweats together, stays together.  Keep your eyes open for couple’s workout classes at your local studio, or just catch a regular class together.  Often times, the first class is free.

If you are in Dallas, check out my free cycle class I am hosting at CycleBar Preston Forest on March 14. You can reserve your bike here.  If you don’t have a date to bring, bring a friend or come by yourself.  It will be a fun ride!

Great ideas! We often do the pizza and wine at home and every now and then just cheese biscuits and wine! A progressive dinner sounds awesome, always wanted to try that 😉

It’s really fun! Progressive dinners are a great way to try out a new restaurant without spending a ton of money. Just go there for a drink and an app!

Cheese biscuits and wine sound yummy!

Gosh, you’re so beautiful! I love these suggestions 🙂 I live in a rural town where there is actually VERY little to do, so we try to do at-home dates as much as possible. We’re doing pizza night tonight! (We usually do it every Friday!)

    • Jessica February 3, 2017 at 10:12 pm

Awh thank you! I think the same thing about you. Friday pizza nights sound like the best tradition!

  • Haleybop February 3, 2017 at 9:19 am

Awesome! I just did a post kind of like this with gift ideas. I love the “dinner at home” one… we are both so busy and travel a lot so when we finally have a date night, we just want to stay home 😀

    • Jessica February 3, 2017 at 10:15 pm

Thanks, girl! My husband just started working from home, so a night out is such a treat for him. I feel the same as you, and a night at home is a gift for me. It’s all about compromise. haha.

  • Charlotte February 3, 2017 at 9:36 am

Aww I love all of these ideas!! Especially ice cream tasting and pizza making but sometimes that’s because I think with my belly first 🙂 rock climbing is something I’ve been meaning to try, too!!

I LOVE the picnic idea! MY husband and I LOVE doing that together when it is nice out.

    • Jessica February 6, 2017 at 5:42 pm

Yes! Sometimes a picnic for us is a romantic dinner on our patio, but I love enjoying the nice weather.

  • Danielle February 5, 2017 at 5:29 am

What great ideas!! 🙂 I love all the chocolate! 😉 My husband and I also like to do game nights at home.

  • Rae February 5, 2017 at 9:46 am

What fun ideas! We too live in a big city but always futz around Saturday night, clueless about what to do. Love the idea of the “progressive dinner” – we’ll have to try that next week for sure!

There are so many fun options!!

  • Sara February 11, 2017 at 11:44 pm

Thanks for all these ideas. We really need to do a better job at making date night a priority. My husband keeps a list of things he enjoys doing (which are basically all our choices) and considers them to be “fun things to do” when we don’t know what to do… this is a little more my speed. 😉

    • Jessica February 12, 2017 at 7:26 pm

Haha. I agree completely that date nights should be a priority. It’s easy to get swept up in the busyness of life and forget to date each other. Some of these ideas have been some of my favorite nights together. 🙂

  • Harmony, Momma To Go February 13, 2017 at 8:51 pm

we’ve done pedicures, a glass of wine and cheese plate at a local wine bar (or make that at home esp with little, little kids)
