Beach Trip Essentials

May 12, 2017

Since summer is coming and a lot of you are planning beach trips, I thought I would share my beach trip essentials. I have taken several trips to the beach over the last few years and made a list of things I used to forget when packing.  My last trip to Mexico was such a success because I felt more prepared.

Here a few of my beach trip essentials:

It makes sense for the pale redhead to list sunscreen first, but everyone needs to be wearing sunscreen on the beach.  The sun is hotter closer to the equator, and it reflects off the sand and concrete.  Currently, I am loving Australian Gold because it smells like coconut and goes on bronze so I can see where I am rubbing it in.

Tanning travel pack

Before I left for the beach, I got a spray tan from Perfect Tan. I have tried several different places for spray tans and have not been satisfied.  My friend introduced me to Perfect Tan and I have been so happy ever since.

Not only do they give me the most even, realistic looking tan, but they sell their own product line in store. I got a travel pack to take with me and extend the life of my tan when I am on the beach. My kit contains tanning lotion (to touch up as needed), body wash, body lotion and body butter. They come in large sizes, or travel, that are perfect for bringing with me on my trip. Get 10% off all services and products with code: Jess10 or mentioning my name in store.

I forgot my razor the first time I went to the beach, and after a few days realized that was a mistake.  Like sunscreen, this can be purchased in a resort gift shop, but it is typically more expensive.  Also, the travel sized razors irritate my skin.  My razor is smooth and dependable, so I bring that to touch up while on vacation.

Multiple swimsuits

If you are headed to the beach, you bring your swimsuit.  However, you may not remember to pack more than one.  Your swimsuit may not dry overnight, so it is great to have another one to wear the next day.  If you tan while on the beach, switching up styles or cuts will help even out tan lines. Obviously, I am not tanning while on the beach, but a lot of people do.

Book or magazine

Reading material is a must while at the beach. I have tried reading books on my iPad or phone, but it just isn’t the same.  The sun causes a glare and it’s too hard to read. There is also just something about having reading material in hand that makes me appreciate it more.

I love to throw a beach bag in my suitcase, so I have something to put everything in when I am walking to the beach.  If you have even been to a resort and tried to carry everything with you, you know it can get awkward. Not only does the bag keep everything together, but it protects my phone and electronics from sand and water.

PIN for later

Here are a few other essentials I like to have for a beach or pool day.

What are your beach trip essentials? Leave me a comment below.

I love, love that swimsuit on the right! Where’s it from? 🙂

    • Jessica May 16, 2017 at 11:57 am

      Thanks girl! It’s from

  • Sarah Althouse May 12, 2017 at 8:24 am

I need to take coconut water. It helps me stay hydrated!

    • Jessica May 16, 2017 at 11:58 am

Yes! That’s a great one! I drink that a lot by my pool.

  • Harmony, Momma To Go May 12, 2017 at 8:37 am

I’m planning to do a family one, but this is pretty much what I bring if I am solo. Some water, or a la croix as well! I also am desperately waiting for some spring beach weather here in NY, but its only 51 degrees!

    • Jessica May 16, 2017 at 11:58 am

Love La Croix. I drink that out by the pool all summer.

  • Stacey May 12, 2017 at 9:00 am

We will be at Virginia Beach in three weeks! I am so ready! This teacher is ready to pack up her room and start summer. Thanks for the tips. I live in Missouri, so I need all the help I can get!

YES to all of these! I am looking forward to some beach days this summer. Granted our beach is a lake and not an ocean, but that’s ok with me!

    • Jessica May 17, 2017 at 5:20 pm

That would be ok with me too!! My “beach” is primarily a pool. haha.

  • Karen L May 12, 2017 at 1:18 pm

Thanks girl! I love the way they fit. 🙂

  • ShootingStarsMag May 12, 2017 at 1:28 pm

Great ideas! I definitely need sunscreen because I’m super pale and I don’t tan much anymore. I’m totally with you on physical books too. I’d add sunglasses or a hat so you aren’t squinting all day! 🙂

    I pinned this!

    • Jessica May 17, 2017 at 5:22 pm

Yes! I use both of those too!!

  • Julie May 12, 2017 at 2:20 pm

  • Davi May 12, 2017 at 4:37 pm

I’m very fair skinned and before we vacationed in the Carribean, I got my very first spray tan. I felt so much more “beachy” and I swear it helped me tan instead of burn (I ‘m sure there is no scientific evidence to back this but its true!). Thanks for the list!

    • Jessica May 17, 2017 at 5:34 pm

      Yes!! I agree completely.

  • Huong May 12, 2017 at 5:00 pm

LOVE that colorblock suit, Jessica! I liked how you kept your essentials to a minimum! Less is more for me especially if it involves the beach!

    • Jessica May 17, 2017 at 5:40 pm

Hopefully it will start warming up!

  • April Kitchens May 13, 2017 at 7:58 am

Those swimsuits are fabulous! I try to get waxed before a trip so I don’t have to worry about hair. But of course, shaving is cheaper than waxing lol.

    • Jessica May 17, 2017 at 5:41 pm

Thank you!! Thats such great idea! I used to do that but got bad cysts from it. 🙁

  • Charlotte May 13, 2017 at 8:29 am

Your bathing suits are so cute!!! This is a great list–I in that having a lightweight beach bag makes a huge difference, too! Also yes to sunscreen and razors–those are always so expensive on vacation 🙂
