Bells and Barbells

December 5, 2016

I’ve partnered with Bells and Barbells to bring you this post.  All opinions remain my own.

Colton and I have been shooting weddings for 7 years now.  One of my favorite things about being in the wedding industry, is all of the people we have met. There is just something about working in the industry that brings people together.  Katherine with Bells and Barbells is no exception.  From the first second I met her, I knew that we would connect and become instant friends.

About Katherine

Bells and Barbells

Katherine has over 12 years of experience as an athlete, coach and personal trainer.  She has a passion for fitness and relationships, and that is evident in the way she interacts with her clients.  Katherine focuses on technique in order to prevent you from getting injured, and she uses a functional fitness approach to help you develop strength using exercises that relate to your every day life.  Her job is to create a personal fitness plan that aligns with your fitness goals and works with your lifestyle.  She has a variety of specialties to meet your every need.

Not only is Katherine extremely knowledgeable and well versed, but she is incredibly motivating and great at forming relationships.  One of the first things I noticed about her is how intentional she is about getting to know her clients and going above and beyond to help them.  She remembers little details about clients and checks in with them throughout the week. This is something I cherish in people and believe is vital to success in achieving goals.

About Bells and Barbells

Bells and Barbells began a little under two years ago when Katherine realized there wasn’t personal training that specialized in wedding fitness. Often times, girls take group classes to get fit before the big day, but they may get lost in the sea of other people. With Bells and Barbells, you truly get specialized training to ensure that you are meeting your goals and staying safe by using correct form.

Wedding planning can be extremely stressful, and too often brides forget to take care of themselves in the process.  This is where Bells and Barbells comes in.  Their sole purpose is to motivate you to stay focused and reach your goals for your big day-whatever they may be. Not only is working out good for your body, but it is proven to increase your energy and release endorphins that better your mood.

You can select from several different options ranging from personal training sessions to a full 6 month bridal program.  Bells and Barbells don’t just stop at fitness, you can get nutritional consults, meal plans, and more. Check out everything they have to offer.

Bells and Barbells opened a brand new studio opened off Knox/Henderson last week.  Although it is already an amazing space, at the beginning of the year, they will be expanding and have even more room.  You will not want to miss their grand opening, so stay connected to receive the latest information.

About my experience

Katherine noticed almost immediately I have limited mobility in my shoulders and hips.  She was quick to offer advice on how to loosen those areas, and she told me exactly what I needed to do at home to help out.  At first, she asked me to do a few basic moves like pushups and squats to watch my form and assess my current ability level.

Then, she created a personal fitness program for me to complete in an allotted time.  I have been to a Crossfit class where I had similar requirements, but it was very different being one on one.  During this session, I was able to learn how to execute each move with proper form, and held accountable to complete each exercise, since I couldn’t hide behind a crowd of people.  My biggest area of weakness is upper body, so we got in a full body workout that really targeted my upper body.

To be honest, I didn’t think I would be able to do the entire workout.  However, with some (okay, a lot of) encouragement, and a La Croix, I did.  I even learned the proper way to do pullups.  Katherine wouldn’t let me quit, because she knew I could do it.  She was right there with me every step of the way.

I left feeling such a high from crushing that challenging workout.  Then, as soon as I walked in the door to my house, I received a sweet and encouraging text from Katherine.  It was such a rewarding experience from start to finish.

Bells and Barbells

As important as a talented wedding planner, great venue, and amazing photographer are, I believe wedding fitness should be right alongside them.  Too often, brides forget to take care of themselves, so it is wonderful to have someone there to help you.  I highly recommend checking out Bells and Barbells and all of the options they have to offer.  When you have spent all of this time planning your perfect day, you should feel your best from the inside out.  Katherine is an expert at getting brides ready for their wedding, and will do the same for you.  Your health should not be the last thing you think about during the planning process.

Wow, this is such a neat service! I wish it was available back when I was getting married! Love that Dallas now has it! I agree, a bride’s fitness is important not just for how she looks for her wedding but for how she feels during the stressful planning time it takes!

I know!! There was nothing like this for me. I would have been all over it.

I have never heard of a fitness service specifically for prepping for a wedding. It’s an awesome idea and would certainly be beneficial for those of us who tend to lose motivation. BTW, I may need her to coach me on how to do a proper pull-up.

    • Jessica December 8, 2016 at 8:47 am

Yes!! I wish it was around when I was getting married. Pull-ups are so tough.

Katherine is amazing. She’s SO smart and so invested. I’m so glad you crushed that workout. Gosh, now I need to learn how to do a proper pull up haha.

    Hey Jessica!
Thanks for sharing your experience! I must admit that I did quite a bit of binge eating while I was engaged, but I didn’t really put on the weight until after I got married. Although that might be because I was still in college & taking a variety of credits that involved quite a bit of exercise. After I got married I gained 20 pounds! It took a lot of work to get back to my pre-wedding weight, but now that I am here I’m determined not to go down that road again! This looks like a really good & encouraging way to stay healthy! I’m going to need to look for a place like this in my hometown.
    Thanks again for sharing!! <3

    • Jessica December 8, 2016 at 9:55 am

Of course!! I gained almost 20 lbs after my first year of marriage too. It happens all the time.

That sounds like a great program. I joined a gym before my wedding, and my husband and I did insanity every day at home too. I made sure my membership was for a year so I couldn’t just slack off after the wedding 😉

    • Jessica December 8, 2016 at 11:22 am

That’s awesome! What great tips. I am sure you both were killing it on your wedding day. 🙂

  • Jenny December 6, 2016 at 11:07 pm
