Today, I am starting a vegan challenge until we leave for Greece in 8 days.  You can follow along by following Love You More Too on Instagram.  Special diets (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.) are becoming more popular and many restaurants are jumping on board to support plant-based lifestyles.  I asked Julie Godfrey, owner and instructor at The Barre Code Plano, to guest blog and share 5 of her favorite north Dallas restaurants for plant based diets (as well as what to order when you are there).

Without further ado…

About Me

My husband (a competitive cyclist and trainer) and I made the switch to a plant-based diet 3 years ago, after watching the documentary Forks Over Knives.  It’s been exciting to see more healthy restaurants popping up all over a town traditionally known for BBQ, Steak, Brisket…MEAT!

A few of my favorite north Dallas restaurants for plant based diets are:

Wholesome Grub

Wholesome Grub is one of the only quick service restaurants around that offers healthy fare (ncluding vegan, vegetarian, paleo and gluten free options).  Swing by the drive through on a hot summer day, when you don’t feel like cooking and try the Seaweed Salad. It’s totally unexpected from an American restaurant and the ginger wasabi dressing is delicious!

Whole Foods love you more too north dallas blogger plano lifestyle blogger north dallas restaurants for plant based diets Whole Foods

Although it is not a “restaurant,” I had to include Whole Foods on my list because it’s the only place I will eat a “mock meat” product.  A friend introduced me to their Vegan Buffalo Chicken Salad a while back and now I’m addicted.  It’s awesome straight out of the container, but I especially love adding it to a chopped salad and getting a little taste of the buffalo sauce in every bite!  You can find the salad already packaged in the deli or order it by your preferred weight/container size.  Tip: they will let you try it before you buy it, so go meet your newest addiction.

Lyfe Kitchen

Lyfe Kitchen is another great Plano restaurant that offers delicious, healthy options for all diets.  The Quinoa Crunch Bowl is a favorite of many.  I am no exception!  Once you taste the blend of flavors in the edamame hummus, chipotle vinaigrette and fireman’s hot sauce, you’ll never miss the meat!  If you are looking for something a littler heartier, make it a wrap and add baked sweet potato fries.

True Food Kitchen

True Food Kitchen has become a favorite place of mine to celebrate birthdays or get a group of friends together.  They offer a lot of vegan options, but there is something for everyone.  Even your pickiest friend will find something here they love.  The Shiitake and Organic Tofu Lettuce Wraps are my go-to.  Even though they are a starter, they are big enough for a meal. Try starting with the Miso soup or the Herb Hummus (ask for no feta).  They also offer a great menu of handcrafted cocktails, using organic and fresh ingredients.

Sundown at the Granada

The Buddha Burger is housemaid with veggies and quinoa.  Skip the bun and order it on a small Kale Harvest Salad.  When you taste the butternut squash and cranberries in the salad, you may just decide to go full on vegan!  Tip: Sundown at the Granada plays free movies on their patio every Wednesday at 8:30pm and live music every other night of the week (10:00pm Sunday-Thursday and 11:00pm Friday-Saturday).

I encourage you to try eating a plant-based diet, even if just one day a week.  Not only will your body thank you, but you are also helping to reduce our carbon footprint!

Thank you so much for guest blogging, Julie.  I can’t wait to try all of your suggestions.
