Why You Should Celebrate Your Birthday in Mexico

May 9, 2017

Everyone should try to visit a resort in Mexico at some point in their life.  It’s truly the best place to escape, find relaxation, and have fun.  In addition, it’s the perfect place to celebrate any special occasion, including a birthday. We spent our long weekend at Secrets The Vine Cancun and could not have been happier with our experience. All of Secrets’ guests experience unlimited luxury during their stay, which is one of the many reasons to celebrate your birthday in Mexico.

Here are a few other reasons:

The hospitality

You cannot beat the hospitality you will experience while in Mexico.  The hotel staff was extremely attentive from the moment we arrived to the second we left.

They greeted us with champagne, and escorted us to a beautiful lobby to get our keys and learn more about the amenities.  The staff keeps everything spotless, even the busiest common areas.

The rooms are clean, spacious, and have beautiful views from the balcony.

The first of my birthday requests was to have someone make my bed for me.  At Secrets, that happens twice. Once when they clean your room in the morning, and then during turn down service before bed.  There is just something about crawling in to a freshly made bed that makes my whole night’s sleep so much better.  The beds at the resort are comfortable clouds too, so I am sure that has a lot to do with it.

No matter where you are at the resort, someone asks if they can get you anything.  Every person we met and talked with were friendly and seemed to love what they do (and they were all incredible at their jobs).

The food

My second birthday request was to eat a ridiculous amount of good food and not have to cook.  They fulfilled this wish beyond my wildest dreams.  Just to give you an idea, here is a breakdown of all of the foods we ate/tried (in alphabetical order).  This doesn’t include the various bars on the resort.

Barefoot Grill

A walk-up grill with burgers and sandwiches, perfect for lounging around the pool.

An Asian-fusion restaurant with sushi and tons of other favorites.  This was one of my favorite meals of our trip.  We ate multiple servings of the dumplings, and my ribs were perfect.

Market Cafe

We ate the breakfast here every morning.  Imagine your favorite breakfast foods, and I guarantee you would find that on the buffet.

They also have an incredible lunch buffet full of delicious desserts.

In the evenings, it turns in to an a la carte Mexican restaurant.  I highly recommend the tostadas trio and stuffed chicken.  Don’t forget dessert either.

Nebbiolo Ristorante

Craving Italian food in Mexico?  You can grab a bite at Nebiolo. Colton loved the octopus and I filled up on soup, bread, and salad and barely had any room left for my lasagna. Barely.

It wasn’t until our trip to Greece, that I realized how amazing Greek food is. Check out Olio for Mediterranean-inspired favorites like spinokapita, hummus, kebbe, and falafel. The ambiance of this restaurant cannot be beat either since all the seating is outdoors.

Sea Salt Grill

We didn’t try Sea Salt for dinner, but stopped in for a quick lunch one day.  Colton loved the fish tacos, and my salad and chicken was just what I needed.

The Vine Bazaar

The perfect little stop for a quick pick me up.  They serve small muffins, cookies, sandwiches, and more in this little cafe.  You can also grab a coffee 24-hours a day here.

The ocean

When this is your view every morning, it is hard to leave.  Between the beautiful sand and blue water, there is little else you need to make your birthday perfect.   The only thing that makes it better is a good book and a cold drink.  At no point do they leave you empty handed if you don’t want to be. Between the fresh juices, soft drinks, frozen drinks, top shelf domestic and international spirits, and water bottles, you will never be thirsty.

Secrets the Vine Cancun has a sand volleyball court and ladder golf set to play overlooking the water too.

The pools

If sand and saltwater is not your thing, you will love hanging out by one of the pools.  Secrets the Vine has 4 pools you can relax and enjoy activities at. One of my birthday wishes was to eat nachos by a pool, and I was able to check that off my list day one.

Lately, I have been so incredibly busy that I haven’t had a moment to stop and rest.  This trip gave me that moment which is honestly the best birthday wish come true. I could have spent all day reading my book by the pool and be just fine.

The activities

The activity crew at Secrets the Vine Cancun do such a great job of creating a daily schedule filled with fun things to do. Although everyone was fantastic, Valeria, Axel, Jackie and Eduardo really stood out to us. Colton played ping pong while I did water aerobics.  Each morning, I took a class-yoga or Pilates to start the day off right.  On Sunday, I visited the gym and enjoyed a morning run on the treadmill overlooking the ocean.

I enjoyed an 80 minute massage at the beautiful spa too.  Even before I got to the massage room, I was completely relaxed.  They have a beautiful space to spend time in before that includes a jacuzzi, cold plunge, sauna, steam room, and relaxing chairs with sand trays.  To be honest, I was so relaxed before the massage that the moment it started, I fell asleep.  Best nap I have ever taken.

We sang karaoke, danced for hours, saw a magic show, and enjoyed a light and fire show- all from the comfort of our resort.  There really is something for everyone.

If this sounds like something you would love, check out our resort and book your next vacation.

Mexico is one of my favorite countries to visit, so we’ve visited there several times. And we only stay at Secrets resorts, or Dreams if we have the kids. you cannot have a better experience than staying at a Secrets property all over the Carribean.

All of this sounds ridiculously amazing. I recently celebrated my birthday in the South of Texas but I have to get busy with planning my boyfriend’s birthday in August. Mexico is -definitely- an option and I have never done an all-inclusive, so I’d be in love!

This look awesome!! I love how cozy the room looks after turn down service (my favorite part of any hotel)! Maybe its just the end of the school year madness, but I wouldn’t mind being there RIGHT NOW. Especially in that spa…

Right?! It came at the perfect time for sure.

Yes you were! Perfect place to celebrate and honeymoon.

  • Erin Klema | The Epicurean Traveler May 10, 2017 at 3:22 pm

Yes, yes, yes! My first all-inclusive resort vacation was for two of my friends’ birthdays. We relaxed by the pool of our Riviera Maya resort sipping our bottomless island cocktails on their birthdays. On the day it wasn’t their birthdays, we went on an excursion to some Mayan ruins and a cenote. It was such a fun and relaxing trip. I enjoyed that mix of poolside days with excursions so much that my best friend and I celebrated our 30th birthdays at a resort in Costa Rica. I’d highly recommend Costa Rica for birthdays and celebrations, too.

    • Jessica May 15, 2017 at 2:02 pm

Yes! Next time we go we want to do the exploring and cenote part. I haven’t been to Costa Rica, but I have heard such great things. We will have to try that too.

  • Michelle May 10, 2017 at 8:21 pm

Seems like such a relaxing birthday. I’m jealous! Especially of those incredibly bright macarons. Love those.

    • Jessica May 15, 2017 at 2:09 pm

It really was. The best kind of relaxing. The macarons were tasty too.

  • Patricia @ Grab a Plate May 10, 2017 at 10:30 pm

Nachos by the pool in Mexico on your birthday? Sounds awesome 😊 Your hotel looks amazing! What a wonderful time!

    • Jessica May 15, 2017 at 2:10 pm

Yes! It was a silly but perfect (for me) request.

  • Davi May 11, 2017 at 5:57 am

Wow! This looks like an incredible vacation! I’ve never vacationed in Mexico, but this resort looks amazing! Love the modern design!

    • Jessica May 15, 2017 at 2:10 pm
