Core Workout

February 20, 2018

A strong core means more than just have abs. Your core includes all the muscles in the front, back, and sides. When you work on strengthen your core, you improve your balance, protect your body from back pain, and develop better posture. Here are some of my favorite moves to strengthen and tighten your core.

Standing crunch Frisbee

To do this move: Start with your legs out, toes pointed out, with your arms at your hips. Squat down and keep your knees tracking over your toes. Lift your right arm straight out and tip to the ride side as you lower your arm behind your leg. Then bring your arm across your body like you are throwing a Frisbee.

Continue for 60 seconds, then switch sides.

Knee to elbow kickbacks

To do this move: Begin in a forearm plank. Bring your right leg in to your right elbow, then push high up to the sky, keeping your abs engaged and booty tucked.

Continue for 60 seconds, then switch sides.

Lying side crunch

To do this move: Lie on your side with your knees pulled up to a 90° angle. Bring your torso to the front and lift your shoulders off the mat. (You will be crunching straight up to the sky with your knees bent at your side).

Continue for 60 seconds, then switch sides.

Side plank dips

To do this move: Begin in a side forearm plank with your arm under your shoulder. Lift the opposite arm to the sky and lift and lower your hips.

You can also do this move from a high side plank if you want the extra challenge.

Continue for 60 seconds, then switch sides.

Pulse ups

To do this move: Lie on your back with your legs straight up in the air. Support your lower back by placing your hands in a diamond under your booty. Lift up with your lower abs and poke your legs straight up.

Continue for 60 seconds.

Repeat entire circuit 2-3 times, and for an extra burn, add in these abs moves!
