Date Idea: Exploring your downtown

One of the best things about living in DFW is the endless number of downtowns nearby. Every suburb near Dallas has their own unique downtown. Some are small and may only have a couple of restaurants, and some of them are large and growing. As much as I wish I could spend each day traveling the world, or even just the United States, I don’t have the money or time. Instead, I choose to make my own local adventures and enjoy a date in Downtown Dallas.

Plan ahead + hydrate

When planning a downtown date, it’s important to think ahead. Research what the parking situation looks like, and be sure to have cash for valet/parking. Plot out the places you want to visit, and be sure to check out what free events are happening. Be sure to plan for all kinds of weather, and how you plan to stay hydrated during your exploration.

I recommend running in to your nearest Kroger and stocking up on DASANI® Sparkling waters. Not only do they have several thirst-quenching flavors, but these sparkling waters give you the carbonated beverage fix. I drink water all day, so I love mixing it up with one of the DASANI® Sparkling beverages. My personal favorite is the raspberry lemonade, but the berry is a very close second.

DASANI® Sparkling is giving away a trip to the 2019 Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Festival for the winner and three guests, which includes a hot air balloon ride. Y’all, this is one adventure I would love to win. One of my biggest bucket list items is to ride in a hot air balloon.

The Grand Prize winner of the DASANI® Sparkling includes round trip, coach-class air transportation from a major airport near the winners home for 4; 3 nights’ accommodations; rental car; 2 Gondola Club passes (2-day passes) to the Festival; a hot air balloon ride for winner and 1 guest; $1,000 spending money; and travel agent services.

All you have to do to enter is:

  • Take a pic of your favorite flavor of DASANI® Sparkling
  • Post it to Instagram or Twitter using #DasaniSparkling AND #FlavorContest

Visit a nearby park

Start your downtown date off with a visit to a local park. Fortunately, Dallas has Klyde Warren Park and several other parks located in and around downtown. I love that Klyde Warren offers a variety of things to do. In addition to people-watching, you can catch live music, read a book, take a workout class, grab food from a food truck, play a game, have a picnic, or do whatever your heart desires. Enjoy the sunshine and fresh air , and take the opportunity to talk and get to know your date.

Walk the streets and enjoy a progressive dinner

Since many downtowns have multiple restaurants, it’s fun to plan a progressive dinner. That way you get to enjoy a few different restaurants and feel like you are a visitor. If you have never had a progressive dinner, it basically works like a multiple course meal you enjoy at different restaurants. Enjoy appetizers at one restaurant, then walk to another for a soup and salad course. Grab your main course at another restaurant, and top it off with dessert from a final restaurant. The best part is, you can snuggle up with your date at night as it cools off while you walk from place to place. Personally, I love to take in the city lights when it starts to get darker, and I enjoy the variety of restaurants and dishes I get. As you walk from restaurant to restaurant, really take everything in. Pay attention to the details in the buildings, artwork, and even graffiti.

Just because you don’t have the time or money to travel doesn’t mean that you can’t plan a local adventure. Looking at your city through the eyes of a tourist can be a fun and memorable experience. It’s the perfect date idea and gives you an opportunity to really get to know the person you are with and the city you live in.
