On Sunday, I was invited to an interactive cocktail event with the residents of Instrata at the Ashton Uptown at Madrina in Highland Park. Expert mixologist and bar manager Jarrod Taylor walked us through how to make three of Madrina’s popular cocktails (one being “Night Changes”). It was such a fun experience and something I have never done before. Madrina was so accommodating (they were closed at the time and opened a special section of the bar just for us).
I sat with Toi Cunningham, Instrata at The Ashton Uptown’s events director, and learned a little more about the property and the many lifestyle and community-building events that Instrata’s residents can participate in each month. These types of events are not unusual at all for their residents. I love how they collaborate with local businesses and restaurants to build community among their residents. After reading about Instrata’s amenity-rich rental properties (specifically the Ashton Uptown in Dallas), it sounds like they don’t even have to leave their building to have a great time and build community (they have their own personal trainer that leads fitness classes, a beautiful infinity pool, private screening room and more).
During the demonstration, Jarrod showed us how they make their Old Fashioned, See You Again, and Night Changes (Check out their drink menu for these and many others). We were able to try all three, and today, I want to share my own twist on Madrina’s Night Changes with you. In moderation, this is actually a “healthy” cocktail. I hope you love it!
1 shot (1.5 oz.) Vodka (or Brandy- I use vodka because clear drinks are typically “better” for you, and this one is organic)
3/4 oz. Fresh squeezed organic lemon (or use Santa Cruz Organic Lemon Juice )
3/4 oz. Simple syrup (I make my own: equal parts sugar and water. Bring to a boil until all sugar is dissolved. Let cool. Put rest in airtight container and save in fridge)
Sparkling wine or Champagne
(Optional) Lemon peel for garnish
- Juice lemon (or pour Santa Cruz lemon juice) in shaker
- Add vodka, simple syrup, and ice to shaker
- Shake, Shake, Shake
- Strain into glass
- Top with sparkling wine/champagne
- Garnish with lemon twist (I couldn’t find my peeler and wasn’t able to make the twist, but it tasted delicious anyways)
There you have it…Night Changes. It is refreshing, bubbly, and crisp. Feel free to double/triple/quadruple the recipe if you are having several people over. You can always make a batch of the drink in a pitcher and add the champagne/sparkling wine just before serving.
If you liked this, you should check out Madrina during happy hour (Tuesday–Friday 4-6:30) for half price food and drinks. Their version is even better (and made with pear brandy- yum!).
Also, if you live in Dallas, New York, Los Angeles or Washington D.C. and are looking for a luxury rental property with a ton of amenities check out Instrata Lifestyle Residences. They are also pet friendly and several of the buildings have their own pet grooming stations and outdoor pet areas.
Where will you drink Nigh Changes? I’m thinking out by the pool this summer. Leave me a comment and let me know!
