Happy back to school educator friends. This post is for you (and anyone else who needs a Friday smile). At the end of every month, I usually share my Friday Favorites, or favorite things from the month. While I don’t think this will be a monthly blog feature, I may bring it back time to time. As a school counselor, I get to work with all of our students, ages 4-13 (PreK- 6th grade). Here are some funny, actual quotes from my students this week.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Me- What do you want to be when you grow up? Boy- Iron Man. Me- Like in movies or at a party? Boy- No. I want to be Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man.
Me- What do you want to be when you grow up? Boy- Honestly, I am way too young to think about that. I am sure whatever I decide I’ll change my mind.
Me- What do you want to be when you grow up? Girl- A mom. And maybe a dog mom too.
Sometimes they love me
Boy- I love your blonde hair. (a few days later…) Boy- Your hair is the weirdest color I have ever seen and I love it.
Boy- I thought you would have an “r” in your name. Me- That’s for people who are married. Boy- It surprises me you aren’t.
I couldn’t make it up if I tried
Girl- psssst. come here. (I get down to her level and she whispers) I am actually a cat. I have to put on my human costume for school so people don’t know my secret.
Girl in hallway- I’m using my big voice and he still isn’t moving. GET OUT OF THE WAY! See?
Girl- Where are your glasses? Me- I don’t wear them everyday. Girl- So some days you don’t want to see us?
What does a school counselor do?
Me- What does a school counselor do? Boy- Coach a basketball team (That’s what I get for wearing #workoutWednesday clothes on meet the counselor day)
Me- What does a school counselor do? Girl- You’re the assistant principal because you are always talking and doing things with the principal.
Me- What does a school counselor do? Girl- Teach us about our brain and how to make us not so sad.
Boy- Ms. Bradshaw. Today was seriously my favorite day of school. I wish I could eat lunch with you every day. This was fun.
Maybe this was a boring post? Maybe it brought you joy? Whether you have kids of your own, or you are around them at school, I hope the “darndest things” they say sometimes put a smile on your face.
