Do you ever find yourself sitting around trying to think of what to do on the weekend? For me, it’s always a hard balance of whether to have a lazy Saturday or an active one.  Last weekend, Colton and I went with another couple to Canyons Climbing Gym in Frisco to do something different.  We didn’t expect to get in an amazing workout and have a ton of fun!

First impressions

We noticed several children at first and thought we may be the only adults.  That was not the case at all.  There were all levels of climbers throughout the gym.  Canyons was well-kept, clean and the employees were eager to help out.

I loved that the boys could get belay trained so that we had the freedom to climb any wall and not have to wait for staff.   The training took less than 10 minutes, then we were on our way.

Canyons Climbing Gym also has 5 auto-belays, so that you don’t need a person with you.  I had trouble trusting the auto belay with my descent at first, but it supports all weights and worked great.

All of their walls are ranked for various levels and there are many different climbing options.  Experienced climbers can go upside down, up angled walls, and routes with smaller rocks.  Non-experienced climbers like myself have a variety of options as well.

The boulder wall is challenging, but it does not require a rope.

The workout

To be honest, I expected to get an arm workout, but I had no idea how much cardio is involved in rock climbing.  My heart rate was racing, arms aching, and I was sweating like crazy.

Not to mention, my arms were sore for days afterwards.  This is an incredible upper body workout. Canyons Climbing Gym offers yoga classes for their members, so check it out for yourself.

Go find your nearest climbing gym (or check out Canyons Climbing Gym if you are near Frisco) and get in a different, fun workout.

I wish we had a rock climbing place near us. We used to, but it was part of an amusement park that closed down. Maybe some day 😀

What a fun idea!! I love this. I’ll have to see if there are places like this in Houston. Perfect unique date night!

I used to go rock climbing with a friend and I really miss it! We also had so much fun. I need to find someone else to go rock climbing with. 🙂

I haven’t done this type of workout in so long! I went to one for a while years ago. So fun!

This looks like so much fun. But all I can think is of the one with no rope. Is there a nice foam pit at the bottom? lol

I’ve gone to indoor rock climbing places a few times and have always had a lot of fun! This place looks great!

I love going rock climbing! A few years ago Isaac and I went to a rock climbing place inside of a silo. It was so much fun, and SUCH a great workout. I’ll have to check this place out now. It looks like it was a lot of fun!

This would’ve been the perfect workout before my Canyoning trip last month lol. Looks so fun. I need to share this with my group. They’d love it.
