On last year’s trip to Denver, I discovered Public School. Since then, I have been back to the 214 location several times. One of my favorite things about Dallas is all the happy hour offerings, and Public School has a great one.
About Public School
Public School offers “an education in the art of food and beer” with it’s chef-driven menu and craft beers. They use local Farmer’s Markets, quality ingredients, and have a large variety of local beers on tap. The menu changes up a couple times a year, and includes unique flavors and combinations. In addition to beer, they have seasonal artisanal cocktails and wines.
Recess, or happy hour, is Monday through Friday 3pm-7pm and includes food and drink specials.
What to drink
Several of the craft beers on tap are only $5 or $6 during recess. You can also snag $5 well drinks and $5 wines. Half liters of wine are only $15.
I am a cocktail girl, and Public School 214 offers some delicious cocktails well worth the non-recess price.
What to eat
The recess menu at Public School 214 has a great selection of food in addition to drinks.
A few weeks ago on Instagram, I posted that there are only a few foods that I do not like and won’t eat. Well, Public School made a liar out of me. I have never liked shrimp, but their popcorn shrimp is tossed in a spicy Thai chili sauce. One of my favorite things I ate during our visit.
Both Adam and I loved the queso fundido. It’s made with a variety of cheeses, chorizo, paprika, cilantro and served with house made chips.
Another food item I don’t usually like, but didn’t mind from their menu is mushrooms. The beech mushroom flatbread is covered in tiny mushrooms, but the truffle goat cheese and arugula help balance the flavor.
I cannot wait to go back and try the PB&J burger, but this time we ordered the Rueben sandwich. They thinly slice the corned beef, make their own dressing, and add gruyere and sauerkraut. It’s served with house made fries and sriracha ketchup.
You know I always save room for dessert. The Nutella ice cream sandwich is the perfect end to any meal. They sandwich vanilla ice cream and Nutella between two chocolate chip cookies. You actually need a steak knife to cut and eat it.
