On the Go Healthy Snack Mix

When I was younger, I was not a fan of nuts.  Other than a few exceptions (I liked peanuts by themselves, and sometimes I would eat the pecans that fell from my MeMe and PawPaw’s tree) I would turn my nose up at them.  Ever since I started the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan, I have used nuts and other foods I did not used to like in my weekly meal plan.  I started making a healthy snack mix that I could bring with me to work, on long trips, or throw in my gym bag to keep me from feeling hungry.

This “recipe” is super easy to make and can be customized with whatever nuts and fruits you prefer.  I usually just throw a little bit of every nut I have in stock at my house in the bowl.  Typically, we have the same ones in the cabinet for different recipes, but every now and then I get something new and add it.  I prefer a variety of textures and tastes in mine, so I use at least 6 different nuts.

Ingredients

Nuts (all unsalted) & dried fruit

Baggies

For this batch I used:

  • Peanuts
  • Chopped walnuts
  • Raw hazelnuts
  • Whole cashews
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Raw almonds
  • Goji berries
  • Coconut flakes
  • Freeze dried mango
  • Freeze dried strawberries
  • Optional: Cacao nibs

Steps

  1. In a large bowl combine 1/4 c of each one of the different nutslove you more too north dallas blogger plano lifestyle blogger foodie healthy snack mix trader joes
  2. Add a tablespoon of each of the dried fruits (I break apart the mango and strawberries to make smaller pieces)love you more too north dallas blogger plano lifestyle blogger foodie healthy snack mix trader joes

  4. Optional: Sprinkle cacao nibs in the mixlove you more too north dallas blogger plano lifestyle blogger foodie healthy snack mix trader joes
  5. Scoop 1/3 portions into baggies (mine made 4 baggies with a teenie leftover that I split between all 4.love you more too north dallas blogger plano lifestyle blogger foodie healthy snack mix trader joes

That’s it!  Now you have a delicious and healthy snack mix to take with you when you are on the go.  Play around with different types of nuts and dried fruits.

Disclaimer: I know nuts are bad for dogs, and I did not feed them any.  They just photobombed me as I was taking the photo and they are pretty cute, so I left them in it. Rest assured, no dogs were harmed in the making of this post. haha.

It is great. We had a 13 hour road trip that I prepackaged some for and snacked on along the way. It was great! 🙂

Ahhh! This is perfect snack inspiration. I usually snack on apples and granola bars, but I love this idea of switching things up with a homemade snack mix. Thank you so much for sharing your healthy snack-mix tip with us. It’s so helpful! 🙂

Thank you, girlie! I am an apple and granola bar girl too, but I love the weeks I make these ahead of time. So easy and delicious!

This looks really good and easy!! I think I’ll have to try this mix on my husband. It’s hard to get him to eat fruit unless it’s in a smoothie, but maybe the dried edition will suit him better. I know he likes dried apples, so that’s a start…..right? 😛

Of course! Colton (my husband) hates mixing “sweet” with his salty. He asked me to make him the mixes without the fruit. One day, I was eating mine and he was really hungry, so he asked for a little bit. The dried mango freaked him out at first, but he ended up loving it. Now I always make his with dried fruit. It’s fun mixing it up and putting different things in there. 🙂

This sounds great! I’m going to make this minus the coconut flakes. Not a fan! But everything else looks great plus I have most on hand! Thanks.

Haha. That’s what’s so great. Fully customization. My husband isn’t a fan of coconut either, but he actually likes it in this.
