Kenny’s East Coast Pizza

September 5, 2016

When you are given the opportunity to try out the newest Kenny’s Restaurant Group addition, you jump on the chance.  If you live in north Dallas, chances are you have been to one of Kenny’s five restaurants.  They pride themselves on customer service, great food, and are a local staple around here.

My first experience with Kenny’s was a couple of years ago when I received a gift card to Kenny’s Woodfired Grill.  The gift-giver told me that this restaurant had “the best steaks in Dallas, but it wasn’t stuffy and over-priced.” Not only is that true, but everything we ate was incredible. Since then, we visited all of the others.  When I saw Kenny’s East Coast Pizza was opening right down the street from us, I anxiously awaited its grand opening.

First Impressions

Every Kenny’s restaurant has it’s own theme and decor, but they all go together.  The photos on the wall made me feel at home.  Kenny’s East Coast Pizza has a laid-back vibe, and the waiters are passionate about the food they are serving.  Although I wanted to try some of the appetizers, I could not help but get excited about the pizza.  Tom, our waiter, welcomed us and described “east coast style” as a crisp crust that bends without snapping and keeping all of the toppings.

What to drink

Kenny’s cocktail menu is full of cocktails that are fun and crafted with care.  If you are a whiskey-drinker, the barrel aged manhattan is rich and delicious.  It’s made with Angel’s Envy (which they have in a barrel behind the bar), vermouth, chocolate bitters, and a black cherry.  This drink is well-balanced and will please any whiskey lover you know.

If your taste buds are a little sweeter, grab the Sir Charles (named after Kenny’s dog!).  They craft this drink with house grapefruit infused Tito’s vodka, lemon juice, triple sec, and St. Germaine.

What to eat

Normally at pizza restaurants, I suggest going straight for pizza and skip the appetizers.  However, Kenny’s serves some of the best-tasting appetizers around.  Colton and I tried a few different appetizers, and I can’t wait to go back and try more the next time.  You could almost make a meal out of their appetizers, but please don’t.  You will miss out on the pizza.

The bruschetta is light with the perfect amount of crunch.  The balsamic vinegar sweetens it up a little bit.

My favorite appetizer is the prosciutto wrapped fried mozzarella.  These fancy fried cheese sticks are cooked to be slightly crunchy but gooey on the inside.

The oven roasted garlic and parmesan wings are another great choice for before pizza snacking.  Don’t be fooled by the “wings” name.  These are jumbo sized and amazing.

Kenny’s restaurant staff are great about substituting and accommodating their guests.  Colton wanted to try “The Hot Mess” and I wanted the “Adult Pepperoni”, but we knew we couldn’t each eat a 14″ pizza.  They split it right down the middle.

The hot mess is their version of a supreme meat pizza.

The adult pepperoni typically comes with mushrooms, but that is one of the only foods I dislike.  I asked if they could substitute mushrooms for pineapple.

Do yourself a favor and save room for dessert. The chocolate peanut butter pie from a local Dallas bakery is wonderful. It wasn’t too sweet or rich and the perfect ending to an incredible meal.

If you have been to a Kenny’s restaurant, you know that they pride themselves on treating customers “the way things used to be.”  Their “policy” is to have no policy.  Customer service is key and you can tell they honor that with every request.  We took home half of our pizza, and it tasted just as good reheated in the oven.

The food and drinks are top notch.  It is safe to say that Kenny’s East Coast Pizza is my new favorite restaurant in the Kenny’s group.

My only hesitation is that you will crave their pizza the very next day and find yourself planning your next visit.

Kenny’s East Coast Pizza exemplifies the Kenny’s motto that “every day is a holiday and every meal is a feast.” I suggest you plan a visit right away and you will see what you have been missing out on.

    • Jessica September 12, 2016 at 10:45 am

I can’t believe you haven’t tried a Kenny’s!! It’s so so so good. This one is my new favorite though.

We want last weekend and it was awesome! Because we do not eat cheese, we risk the chance of ordering a pizza that lacks enough toppings and sauce to make up for the missing ingredient. Kenny’s pizza sauce is so good and the veggies were loaded so we will definitely be back and likely ordering takeout when leaving The Barre Code!

    • Jessica September 12, 2016 at 10:46 am

Right?! It’s so close, I may be doing a lot more takeout after TBC now. haha.
