Before I start, I need to admit that I have been avoiding trying poke bowls for a very long time. Honestly, the idea of a bowl of raw fish grossed me out a bit. I don’t eat sushi, and I really don’t even like cooked fish all that much. Also, how is that going to fill me up? I have a large appetite and they don’t look that filling. However, everyone raves about it, so I figured I would give it a try when Mamasan House of Poké reached out.
One of the things we learned when we visited Mamasan is that they offer more than just raw fish. You can choose between seafood, chicken, pork, beef and veggies to mix in your bowls and wraps.
I love their patio that is clearly meant for enjoying time outdoors with your friends and family. It’s spacious and ready to go with fire pits and misting fans.
What to drink
Grab one of their teas and lemonades. Each of them are made fresh in store with all kinds of ingredients to give it a unique flair.
If you are in the mood for an adult beverage, they carry that too. Enjoy canned wine, beer on tap, and their special “frozen drink.” The frozen drink is sweet, but not too sweet, and, as they say, “packs a serious punch.”
What to eat
Whether you are in the mood for a shareable plate, roll, or bowl, Mamasan has just what you need.
Start off your meal with the poké nachos. These delicious wonton chips are topped with ahi tuna poke, watermelon radish, avocado spicy mayo, green onion cilantro pesto and shishito peppers. Even people who refuse to eat raw fish will want to try this dish. It was a great way to segue into the bowl.
The bowls are filled with rice, beans, greens, quinoa, dressing, and protein. After trying all of the seafood options, I felt brave and ordered the tuna. I don’t regret it one bit. Now I understand why these are so completely addicting. Also, I was completely wrong. Poké bowls are extremely filling.
If seafood isn’t your thing, choose from one of the two different chickens to top your bowl.
Maybe a roll is more your style. Think of it like a giant, sushi burrito. Again, you can stuff it with any protein.
Spice up your meal with one of the many dip sauces from the dip sauce bar.
Thank you to Mamasan House of Poké for hosting us. All thoughts and opinions remain my own. As you know, I wouldn’t share a place with you that I didn’t love.
