This summer, one of my best friends, Hannah, and I went on a girl’s trip to Mexico. Hannah is a travel agent with Legacy travel, so she is an expert on all things Mexico. This summer, I was lucky enough to go with her to Breathless Riviera Cancun since it just opened. We stayed for 3 nights for the perfect quick trip getaway.
Mexico is my favorite “quick trip” destination. From Texas, it is just a short 2 hour or so plane ride. The food is great, the beaches are beautiful, and the prices are reasonable.
Hannah and I stayed in the “Xhale Club” section of the resort. The Xhale club offers many perks including upgraded suites, a private pool, jacuzzi, bar, and restaurant.
Our room was spacious, had a gorgeous ocean view, and a jacuzzi bath outside. The walk in rainforest shower was my favorite part. It had two ceiling shower heads and one regular detachable one. Breathless doesn’t skip on luxurious amenities for their rooms.
Every room had a tablet that controlled everything. There were plenty of USB ports and outlets to plug in your devices. The rooms were nice and cool and all had their own ceiling fan.
Breathless Riviera Cancun is stunning. I can’t wait to see it in just a few years when all of the trees and plants are fully grown. The staff does an incredible job of keeping everything clean.
There are three pools on the resort. The pool we spent the most time in was the Xhale club pool. This was the quiet, pool exclusive to the Xhale members. The middle pool, the activity pool, had events going on all throughout the day. We participated in a football throwing contest, Bingo, and more. The last pool was more of a “party pool” complete with a DJ and foam party. This pool gets busy later in the evening and stays busy all night.
Food & drinks
One of the best things about visiting a resort in Mexico is trying new, different foods and drinks. Breathless Riviera Cancun has a ton of dining options, including a 24 hour buffet or room service. Each restaurant has it’s own flair and flavor. I am only going to review the restaurants we ate at, although there are several others.
Restaurants (in alpha order)
Bites (tapas and small plates)- This was our least favorite of all of the restaurants. The ribs and wings were delicious, but everything else was just ok. Service was good. I like how it overlooked the middle “activity” pool and was easy to get to.
Kibbeh (Gourmet Lebanese and Middle Eastern Cuisine) – This is the restaurant exclusive to Xhale members. We ate lunch, our first meal upon arrival, and breakfast here. The food was delicious, and the drinks were fantastic. The lunch and breakfast menus are not Lebanese and Middle Eastern Cuisine, but we heard great things about the dinners.
Nook Cafe (Coffee & pastries)- This is a cute little coffee shop with a variety of baked goods. Their hot chocolate was fantastic.
Picante (Mexican)- Our favorite restaurant of the trip! Everything we ate was so good! The only complaint we heard from others was that the portion sizes were small, however we were prepared and ordered a ton of food. Be sure to try their tortilla soup. Lastly, the chocolate cake was the best dessert we had the whole trip.
Silk City (Pan Asian)- We made reservations for the hibachi grill our last night in Mexico. It was such a blast! There was a ton of great food on the menu.
Spoon (International Buffet)- This buffet has everything you could possibly imagine for breakfast, including a mimosa and bloody Mary bar. We also stopped by for lunch and were very happy with the selections. The best part about the buffet is that it is open 24 hours.
Spumante (Italian)- This restaurant is definitely worth checking out. We were both happy with our selections, and the portion sizes were plentiful.
There are several bars at Breathless Riveria Cancun. All of them have great bartenders ready and willing to make any drink you want. Each bar has their own menu with specialties. All of the drinks are made with fresh squeezed juices, so they were fresh.
One of the great things about traveling with a travel agent is learning “tricks of the trader.” Although tipping is not expected, it is a great idea to get change in $1s before you leave the States. All of the waiters and staff members were grateful for their tip. We just left $1 or $2 on the table at restaurants and bars throughout our visit.
Breathless Riviera Cancun offers a variety of options for entertainment. They offer kayaking, paddleboarding, pool games, yoga, boot camps, shows, sand volleyball, DJs, and much more. There is always something to do while you are here. Our primary purpose of the trip was relaxing, so we did a ton of that while we were there.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. The activities team here do a great job of planning activities and making everyone feel included. They remembered our names and called us by them every time we saw them.
Another thing we loved was that we didn’t have to wear wristbands on this resort which is different compared to other resorts.
Everything on the resort was clean and the amenities were incredible. We both were extremely happy with the quality of food received.
Our room was gorgeous, spacious, and modern. Hannah and I continued to marvel at our room the whole time we stayed here.
This resort is still new, so they are still working out some kinks. Both Hannah and I were surprised at how few kinks there were so early on. However, since I am wanting to be objective and give a fair review, here were somethings I noticed.
It took a while for the hot water to get to the shower, and our outdoor tub water never got hot the one time we tried it. Our room had a motion- censored light at the bottom of the closet that would go off when you got up to go to the bathroom. It was helpful for the person getting up, but pretty bright for the person who was still asleep. The maid service was great the first day, but they never came back the rest of the time we were there.
If you are looking to relax, it will be in your best interest to upgrade to the Xhale package, because I can imagine the other rooms can get pretty loud at night with the parties. However, if that is the atmosphere you are looking for, the rooms on the other side are close to everything and a ton of fun.
When we were there, the Breathless Riviera Cancun was not at capacity. It was quiet, but still full of life. I can imagine after a few more months, this resort will be one of the most sought after spots in Mexico. It was beautiful, had a great beachfront, great food, friendly staff, and plenty to do. Whether you are there as a couple, or with friends there is something for everyone here. Overall, Breathless Riviera Cancun will leave you breathless.
