Saturday, I went to Brawl and Brews with The Barre Code Plano at Nine Band Brewing Co. We had a killer brawl class, and I torched over 500 calories in under an hour. Afterwards, we got to tour the brewery and enjoy a pint out on the beautiful patio. For more photos from this event, please check out Love You More Too on Facebook (and like the page while you are at it!).
Nine Band Brewing Co. is located in Allen, right off of 75 and Bethany. It’s the perfect middle ground between Plano and McKinney. Nine Band rents out their taproom and patio for special events like these, or you can take a public tour on Saturdays at 12:00, 1:00, or 2:00pm.
Nine Band has a taproom that is the perfect spot to hang out with friends before dinner. Check out their website for a list of their hours. Its large, with plenty of tables and TVs to keep everyone entertained.
There is also a covered patio with tables, chairs, and a walk-up bar window perfect for a sunny Texas day.
Nine Band Brewing Co got its name because armadillos native to Texas have nine bands on their shell. Each one of their beers has a “Texas-themed” name, even including Texas urban legends. Disclaimer, I do not drink beer because I don’t like the taste, but everyone I was with loved the pale ale. I some comments like “I don’t usually like beer, but this is great!” and “I love the flavors in this one!”
Currently, they offer eight different flavors (the Oktoberfest is seasonal and will be available at the end of July, according to Ian, Nine Band’s brewmaster and our brew tour guide).
The brewery tour
Ian, the brewmaster, walked us through the whole process of how Nine Band beer is made. It’s fascinating to learn about the ins and outs and everything that goes in to a drink. Every detail is meticulous. From the flavors of the grain, to the science and art of making the beer. I think my favorite thing I learned that Ian calls local farmers to pick up the grain after it has been used to feed to their cows. (Leave it up to the animal lover to tune in to that fact).
Bring your favorite beer lover and some friends to Nine Band Brewing the next time you are looking for something to do. If you have time, you should definitely check out the tour. For $15, you get a tour, beer samples, and a pint. It is well worth the money!
