This summer, I have spent a lot of time at the pool (speaking of pools, I am currently in Mexico and you can follow my adventures  on Instagram).   Whether I am soaking up the rays (typically under an umbrella) at home or on vacation, I pack the same pool bag essentials (including new Pure Protein Plus Bars).  I keep my pool bag stocked and ready to go, so I don’t have to scramble around to find what I need before an impromptu pool date with my friends.

Snack

It never fails, spending a lot of time outside in the pool makes me hungry. Swimming also burns a ton of calories.  One of my new favorite things to snack on are these new Pure Protein Plus Bars.

They come in four new, great flavors (Cookies and Cream, Mocha Brownie, Apple Pie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough).  Honestly, it is hard to pick a favorite!  All four flavors are delicious and have real food bits mixed in, so the texture is wonderful.  The best part is they have no artificial sweeteners with a lot protein and are GMO-free to keep me going and keep me on track!

When you shop Walmart for Pure Protein Plus Bars, be sure to use Ibotta to earn $1.50 back.  You can grab your own box/bar of Pure Protein Plus Bars at your local Walmart.  They are on the sports nutrition aisle with the vitamins and protein powders.

Sunscreen

As a pale redhead, I speak from experience when I say sunburns are no fun.  Plus, they are horrible for your skin and health.  Be sure to reapply according to the directions and more frequently if you are in water. Typically I use the lotion first and the spray to reapply because it is much easier.

Towel

This may seem like a no-brainer, but I always keep a towel in my bag.  Some places provide towels, but if they don’t, I have a backup in my bag.

Sunglasses

I stock up on sunglasses, so that I can keep a pair in my bag.  Whether I am reading a magazine or swimming, I make sure I am wearing sunglasses.  They are more than a stylish accessory.  Sunglasses protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays of the sun that can cause a variety of problems (including skin cancer of the eyelid!).

Cover-Up

I always have a cover-up with me.  When an umbrella is not available, and I am out of the water, I want to protect my skin as much as possible.  Not to mention, you can get some stylish and cute cover-ups now.

A Yummy Drink

This one isn’t one I can keep in my bag, but I love drinking smoothies by the pool.  One of the best things about being off in the summer is creating new smoothie recipes.  Here is a delicious recipe you can make quickly so you can get out to the pool and enjoy!

Ingredients

8oz Unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Handful of spinach

1 Tbl Peanut butter (I use no sugar, no salt natural peanut butter)

1 tsp. Cacao powder

Several ice cubes

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pure Protein Plus Bar

Instructions

1. Add spinach, peanut butter, cacao powder, and ice to the blender.  2. Blend all ingredients together.  3. Before smoothie is fully blended, break apart Pure Protein Plus Bar and add it to the mix (this is to make sure you have some bits to give your smoothie texture) 4. Add more ice as needed to make it as thick as you would like. 5. Enjoy.

Seriously, it is that simple!  This smoothie is high in fiber and protein and low in sugar.  You would never know because it tastes like you are drinking a good ole’ fashioned cookie dough milkshake.
