Every now and then day, I crave chocolate. I would say it is a problem, but I really don’t mind it. My senior year of high school, I wrote a speech on the history of chocolate. In a nutshell, it’s delicious on everything.

One day, I was making a smoothie by throwing all of the things I love into the blender to make one big super food dessert shake.  After multiple attempts (all delicious), I finally found the perfect combination.  The peanut butter chocolate banana smoothie is great for breakfast, lunch, or whenever you have a chocolate craving you can’t shake with a piece of dark chocolate.

Ingredients:
½ C almond milk
½ frozen banana
1 ½ Tbl peanut butter
1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder
1 Tbl cocoa (or cacao) powder
Dash cinnamon
Dash salt
1 Tbl honey
1 ½ handfuls ice

(Optional)
Handful spinach (turns the smoothie a bit greenish brown, but is packed full of protein and nutrients)
3 squares cacao (I like the 72% cacao bars from Trader Joes)
Unsweetened coconut flakes (to garnish/top smoothie with)

Mix all ingredients in blender until smooth.  If using cacao squares, drop in blender just before shutting off to add a little crunch.

Pour into glass and top with coconut flakes.

Feel free to adjust the ingredients to your liking.  You can make your chocolate banana smoothie any time of day.  I like to add more peanut butter when I eat it for lunch.

Enjoy, chocoholics!

I smiled when I read this post because I, too, did a speech on the benefits of chocolate in high school !! I’m such a chocoholic….my grandpa was a pastry chef, so my addiction comes from my childhood. Your recipe seems delicious, I’ll definitely give it a go ! Merci 🙂
