One of my 30 things to do before I turn 30 was to take photos by myself. Since I am married to a photographer, I have hundreds of photos of me making goofy faces, annoyed by having a camera “all up in my grill” (Sixfourteen clients understand this). I strongly dislike having my picture taken by myself. The last time I had a solo photo session was several years ago for a special event. Then, I heard about the Redhead Project.

As you know I am passionate about being a redhead. My Being Ginger post is still my most viewed post today. When I heard Keith Barraclough was taking his Redhead Project to the road and coming to Dallas, I begged to be involved.
Keith is an incredible editorial photographer that started a personal project, the Redhead Project, after shooting a redhead wearing white on a white background. Then, he started photographing local redheads. The Redhead Project was born. Eventually, he and his wife Kate decided to hit the road and photograph redheads along the way.
Redhead Project in Dallas
In Dallas, they rented out a room at MPS Studios, and I was in awe from the moment I walked in. The studio is credited in many movies, TV shows, commercials, and not to mention, various print ads. It was hard not to feel like a minor star.
Keith was extremely professional and explained his vision. He looked through all of my “props” to get a better idea of where I wanted to go with the session. Working collaboratively with such a creative person while being shot tandem to a computer was a new experience. I wasn’t sure how I would feel seeing the photos immediately, but it actually helped boost my confidence.
Part 1
Keith asked all the “models” to wear a solid white shirt in the first set of shots in order to make our red hair and eye color pop. Once he explained everything, we started shooting.

I felt nervous at the beginning and not completely comfortable with all of the white and a straight face. Once I saw the photos on the screen, I was surprised. There were actually several great shots I was excited about right off the bat. The first photo above was actually the first one of my shoot.
Part 2
With the next outfit, I was able to let my personality shine. My life is all about balance. Between work at school, writing, calendars, working out, cooking, cleaning, entertaining, traveling…there is always something going on. Even though it can be exhausting, I love that I am surrounded by people, places, and things that I enjoy.

The last part of the shoot was my favorite. Honestly, it was probably my favorite part of any shoot I have been a part of. I found this tank top at Kohls and knew it perfectly described me. It was exactly what I envisioned to represent me, since chocolate is my favorite.

When Keith asked if I wanted to eat it, I said “absolutely!” He asked me how messy I was comfortable with getting, and I said “as messy as you want.” The next few photos are some of my favorite pictures ever taken of me.
