If you are like me, you are in the middle or nearing the end of a fall fitness challenge.  Your body probably feels a little fatigued, you are sore all over, and you aren’t quite sure what to do next.  Here are some ideas for restoration during a fitness challenge to help your tired muscles.

Take a warm bath

Epsom salt baths are great for muscle tension and pain.  Try adding a couple of drops of lavender oil or eucalyptus to make your bath experience more relaxing.  Pour yourself a glass of wine and unwind, even if just for 10-15 minutes.

Visit a spa

There is nothing like a great massage to soothe your tired muscles.  You have worked hard, so you deserve to reward yourself during the process.  Try a sports massage, facial, or even a mani/pedi.

It may not be possible for you to spend money at a spa, so do your own at home treatment.  An at home facial treatment may be just what you need to relax.  I love the sea algae clay mask from Tone It Up.  It always leaves my skin feeling super hydrated.

I am also loving all of the barre/HIIT restore classes at The Barre Code Plano. The extra minutes of stretch make a huge difference.


When you are challenging your body, it is important to reward it with some stretching.  This is something I often forget, but when I remember, I feel so much better.  Join in on The Noya Yoga self-love challenge as a starter.

Foam roll

I have said it before and I will say it again, foam rolling is my best frenemy.  It can be painful, but it is a great way to work out the knots and tightness from overworked muscles.

Drink water

It is important to stay hydrated and get water to your muscles.  If you are working out more than usual to finish your challenge, you need even more water.  Read this post for how to stay hydrated and get some yummy drink recipes to encourage you to drink more water.

Take an active rest day

Although it is tempting to spend a whole day in bed with Netflix, moving around is helpful to get blood to the tired muscles.  Go on a short walk, clean your house, or make a trip to the grocery store.  You don’t have to run a marathon, just get up and move for 20 minutes.

    I love this post. Far too often, we just from one challenge and activity to the next without taking the time to breathe in between and appreciate your body for withstanding what you put it through. This is such a great self-love reminder!

    I love face masks and body scrubs! They always make me feel so much better afterwords. I haven’t used any lately, but I may run off and buy some now that you’ve reminded me!

    I am in desperate need of a spa day, massages and facials are my jam. I also need to invest an at home clay mask. Thanks for the suggestions! These are also great to relieve stress for an anxious person such as myself 🙂

    These are some excellent tips, ESPECIALLY water! I don’t think people realize how water can affect how sore their muscles actually are. When I was younger, and was working out to the extreme for sports, I would take an ice bath when I was really sore to help with the inflammation. It was awful, but I always felt better afterwards. I’ve never heard of a foam roll before, but it sounds genius! Thanks for sharing <3
