I was invited to a private tasting at Del Frisco’s Grille in Plano last week just in time for my birthday. Be honest, when you hear Del Frisco’s do you think black tie, stuffy, expensive food with tiny portions? It’s ok, at one point I did too. However that couldn’t be further from the truth for Del Frisco’s Grille. This is a restaurant for the every man (and woman), boy and girl.
When my friend, Allison, and I arrived, we were greeted by a friendly hostess who walked us through the restaurant and sat us outside on the beautiful patio. The lunch menu boasts daily dishes, shareable plates, salads, sandwiches, flat breads and meals that will always leave you with leftovers.
We started with a couple of signature drinks. The Sangria Pop, a delicious house made sangria with, yes, a popsicle and the VIP. One of my favorite things to do at restaurants is try signature drinks, and Del Frisco’s Grille does not disappoint with their selections. They have a wide variety of hand crafted, creative and beautiful cocktails.
Since it was a tasting, my friend and I were able to try several of Del Frisco’s popular menu items. Rather than ordering, we had them send out some favorites. (Which was good, because it was all things I would have never ordered for myself, but ended up loving). For appetizers, or “food to fight over” as the menu listed, they brought out the Ahi tacos. The flavors from the puffy shell, tuna tartare, avocado, and spicy citrus mayo complimented each other so well!
Next, we tried the cheesesteak eggrolls. These were so delicious that I had two (knowing there was more food coming and I would be stuffed by the end). My biggest regret was not getting the leftovers to go so I could share with Colton and enjoy them later. The eggrolls are served with a swirl of sweet & spicy chili sauce and honey mustard. I made sure I dipped mine through both sauces to really get the full effect.
For entrees, we had the cheeseburger, daily special (fried fish and french fries), and the prime beef short rib stroganoff. I was surprised to find out the cheeseburger was one of the most popular items, but after the first bite… I understood why. Do yourself a favor and celebrate National Burger Month by grabbing one of these immediately.
First, look at how adorable the mini ketchup is! The burger was huge and the sloppy sauce was a perfect blend of sweet and spice. Way to go, Del Frisco’s Grille, you have now become my favorite place to grab a burger.
The fish and chips was also another very large Texas-sized portion. With fresh fish and the perfect batter consistency, this plate gave the burger some stiff competition for sure.
Many of the dinner favorites can be requested for lunch. One of those is the prime beef short rib stroganoff. It was tender, juicy and the tobacco onions really set off the flavor.
After all that food and another round drinks, I was surprised we still had room for dessert. However, Allison and I will never turn down dessert, so we got our stomachs ready.
The lemon doberge cake was refreshing, sweet with a hint of tart. My favorite part was the homemade lemon buttercream icing.
We also tried the coconut cream pie with white chocolate shavings. How gorgeous is this? It tasted even better than it looks, I promise.
Allison and I left stuffed full, happy, and already planning our next trip back (with plenty left over for Colton to try. FYI- he was a HUGE fan of the stroganoff).
Next time you are planning a lunch or dinner with your significant other, family, friends, girls, or work check out Del Frisco’s Grille. I am sure you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, but you’ll have even more fun if you order several items for the table to sample. Drop your preconceived notions of the small portions and expensive food and check it out.
