Review: Mi Dia From Scratch Plano

February 29, 2016

This year, for Valentine’s Day I decided to plan a dinner and movie date. The movie choice was simple, Brooklyn, because we only needed to see one more “Best Picture” nominee to round off the list. For dinner, I wanted to check out a cool looking new restaurant with a mind-blowing drink menu that opened down the street…Mi Dia From Scratch.

First Impressions

The decor was contemporary, cozy and clean.  We were seated right away and greeted by friendly staff the entire visit.  There is an impressive tower of tequilas (seriously one of the largest tequila collections I have seen in any restaurant) in the middle of the bar.  The drink menu alone will take some time to get through because just about everything sounds delicious.  Mi Dia’s menu is separated by snacks, soups and salads, street tacos, Sante Fe, Mexican, and Tex Mex.  It is easy to read, but like the drink menu, hard to make a decision.

What we Ate/Drank

We started off with the signature Hibiscus Champagne Margarita.  It is $15, but it was like a party in a glass.  I thought it was not only beautiful to look at, but delicious.  During dinner, I had the Patron XO Dark Cocoa-strawberry infused tequila and it was also great.

Although we had chips and salsa, we wanted to try as much as we could.  For our appetizer, we ordered the Queso Fundido (which is one of our favorite things to have if restaurants offer it).  Mi Dia’s is prepared table side and served in warm tortillas.  It was fantastic and brought back memories of eating on the beach in Mexico at Zoetry.

Colton ate applewood smoked bacon and chipotle steak fajitas.  The steak was incredibly juicy and full of flavor.  I had tacos al pastor.  There is just something about pork and pineapple that make me very happy.  The portion size was great, and I was able to bring some tacos home with me.

Tacos Al Pastor

We ended dinner with homemade ice-cream. All of their ice creams are made fresh in house, and we were allowed to pick three different flavors.  The dulce de leche tasted a little bit like cheese (but very good, cold cheese).  I chose the blueberry Tres Generaciones Tequila flavor and it was awesome.  It was refreshing, but had a little kick to it.   The Negra Modelo milk chocolate was my favorite (you should know my love for chocolate at this point).

Raves

The drinks and food were absolutely wonderful.  Everything is made fresh with local ingredients, so I felt I wasn’t eating as unhealthy as I would have at other Mexican food restaurants.  Mi Dia offers a huge variety (and even a Vegetarian and Gluten-Free menu if that is your preference).

Hesitations

This would not be a cheap place to grab dinner and drinks, but it is a delicious place.  Mi Dia is also not a quick in and out place, so come ready to sit and enjoy your meal.

Overall

I would highly recommend checking out Mi Dia.  You will not be disappointed.  Next time, Colton and I plan on checking out the patio.
