Juice bars. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear those two words? Before Nekter, I did not have a lot of experience with juice bars so I had no idea what to expect. I imagined a place that sold cold pressed juiced as well as freshly made juices in store. The only fruit I assumed I would see would be apples and whatever else you can mix with veggies to make a healthy drink. Instead, here is what I found.
When I walked in, I noticed the atmosphere was welcoming, bright and cheery. Their menu is very easy to understand. It is separated by acai bowls, juices, and smoothies. Based on my initial expectations, I was genuinely surprised to see smoothies and acai bowls on the list.
After looking over the menu for several minutes (everything sounded delicious and I was having such a difficult time choosing), I ordered the pitaya acai bowl. I was hooked after the first bite. Since that first visit, I have gone back almost every Friday as a special treat for the end of the week. Now, I have a “usual” bowl (banana berry bowl with pitaya toppings) but I have tried several different bowls, juices, smoothies, and to go treats. Sometimes I take a juice to go for lunch. Everything I have tried has been delicious and there isn’t anything I have tried I would not recommend.
I love how convenient Nekter is for me and most of Plano. It is located right off of Park and Preston, which makes it easy to run in after a barre class or before a shopping spree at Trader Joe’s. They have a free app you can download in order to earn “fruits” and free menu items.
They also have a couple of different juice cleanses available for purchase online and in store. I have not tried it yet, but when I do, I will post my review.
Raves: The friendly staff, delicious food, fresh fruit, healthy choices, calorie count on menu for those that need it, organic/whole ingredients, menu variety, convenience, and all of the prepackaged juices and treats.
Hesitations: Price- however getting real/quality fruits and vegetables is expensive, so they charge what they need to. It is just more expensive than “typical to go” breakfast/lunch. If price is your setback, go for the acai bowl. With all the whole toppings, you really get your money’s worth.
Overall: Go there! Try an acai bowl then come back and try more, but beware because it may become a weekly tradition.
