The State Fair is coming to an end in Texas, but you still have a few days left to enjoy the fried deliciousness.  If you haven’t been this year, I would suggest going on Thrifty Thursday and take a part of the many special deals you can get on food.  Nearly every booth offers a special priced item, so you have the opportunity to taste as many things as possible.  Here are some of the State Fair food favorites that Colton and I tried this year.

There are so many great things to try on Thrifty Thursday.  We snagged a few great deals in addition to trying some new items.  There are countless more, so be sure to check out the Thrifty Thursday food guide before you go.

Fletcher’s bird dog (turkey dog)– at any of the Fletcher’s corn dog stand, save 4 coupons ($2) and opt for the turkey dog.  It is a little healthier for you, and saves you some coupons to try something else.

Mini buffalo chicken in a flapjack- Right next to the Fletcher’s corn dog stand in Big Tex Circle is the Chicken Hut. Here you can get a mini buffalo chicken in a flapjack for 6 coupons.  Colton tried it and said he would like it better if he had some ranch to dip it in to.  This is a mini one, so don’t expect a Texas-sized portion.

3 Wings with Fries- On the midway, stop by Larry’s Bar and Grill for 3 wings and fries for 6 coupons.  This is half the price it usually is for a full serving!

Regular price favorites

Turkey leg- Colton’s favorite fair food is a turkey leg.  Anytime we visit a fair or festival, he has to have one.  They are around the same price everywhere.  This year, we got a turkey leg from the best stand at the fair (trust me, he has had them all).  You will find it in the back part of the midway.  It is a huge grill that has turkey legs on the fire and makes hamburgers (blogger fail, I didn’t grab the name of it or a photo, but I promise it isn’t hard to miss).  The reason this stand is the best is because it is still on the grill when you purchase, so it is hot and stays hot the whole time you eat it.

Fried deviled eggs- At Larry’s, I saw fried deviled eggs with cream cheese and bacon and had to try it.  It was so incredibly good.  I haven’t had a hot deviled egg before, but it was just as good as a cold one.

Fried Jello- The 2016 State Fair best taste award this year went to the fried Jello, so we had to try it.  It was similar to a jelly-filled donut.  It is worth trying, but Colton said he would have gotten the fried Reese’s if he saw that first.

Fried brownies- I am a sucker for fried Oreos and get them every year.  This year, I tried and loved the fried brownie bites instead.  You can grab these inside the Grand Place building.

Beer Combo- Colton and I were excited to see our friends at Bishop Cider have some tap ciders this year at the fair.  One of the bars we stopped at had a Blood Orange cider from Bishop and an apple cider on tap.  They mixed the two flavors and it tasted like a mimosa.  If you see these flavors, ask for them together.

There is always such interesting food at state fairs. The last one I went to, I had a deep fried twinkie. In my opinion, you can never, ever beat a good old fashioned funnel cake. They are always my favorite!

Yum!! I’m going to the fair on Saturday and I can’t wait! 🙂 I’ve already planned out what I want to try this year: cookie fries, chicken pot pie pocket and fried chicken and dumplings. Mm mmm mmmm.

I’m doing so good about not going to the State Fair this year! Last year I went waaaay overboard. I don’t trust myself in that place! haha

The Minnesota State Fair was the 12 days leading up to Labor Day. I love it. I’ve never been to the Texas State Fair. I like Pronto Pups. I tried an apple dumpling. It was so good but weighed about 7 pounds and was hard for two people to finish. I always get a beergarita, too. So refreshing. I’m starting to miss the fair!

I would love to go to the State Fair in Texas to see the Big Tex! I think the best fair food I have ever had was a deep fired snickers candy bar! OMG! LOVE!

These fairs seem like so much fun. I haven’t been to one in ages. It’s insane how many state fair treats are fried too.
