Things That Make Me Cry

When I was younger, I remember watching TV and movies with my mom and everything made her cry.  The main character would have a happy ending… she would cry.  Someone died… she cried. Someone was reunited with their dog…she would cry.  It never made sense to me why she would cry when all of these happy things (or sad) would happen.

Fast forward to high school:  I was sitting on my bed watching “Father of the Bride” and noticed I was getting misty-eyed.  This is not a sad movie folks!  I remember in that moment thinking “oh, no! This must be what it is like to officially be a woman.”  The older I get, the more ridiculous the things make me cry are.  For the last couple of weeks, I have been making a list of things that make me cry so you can laugh with me at how silly most of them are.

In no particular order:

  1. Best man speeches (sometimes maid of honor speeches)- There is just something about grown men getting emotional that gets to me.  We didn’t have speeches at our wedding, so it is something that I always wish we did.

  2. Father of the bride speeches- see number one
  3. Extra gum commercials– Like this one or this one.
  4. Commercials with dogsTears me up every time (I am seriously crying watching this commercial now).  Don’t even get me started on the ASPCA ones.
  5. On that note, movies where the animal dies.
  6. Nicholas Sparks movies– Why does someone die in all of them and why does it wreck me?
  7. When Jennifer Lawrence cries– I told you some of them were ridiculous.
  8. When Colton does something sweet unexpectedly– Clean the house, offer to make dinner, or most recently, leaves me sweet notes all over the house before going out of town.

  9. “What Would You Do?” TV show– Seriously, every time this show is on and I watch it, I end up crying.  When people you don’t “expect” make the “right” choice/stand up for someone else/ say what we are all thinking I get emotional.
  10. Curtain call– If you are a non-theater person, this one may make zero sense to you.  I performed growing up in various plays at church.  In junior high and high school, I was in theater and did every play we put on (except musicals, I was terrified of singing in front of people).  At the end of a show, the actors come out with all of the energy and excitement from finishing and take a bow.  It is my favorite part of the performances I watch, because I reminisce on my days in theater and how proud we would all feel after a show.

There you have it, things that make me cry (list 1).  I am sure there will be several additions of this each time I get up to ten.

I have shared the things that make me cry, now it is your turn.  Is there anything ridiculous that makes you cry? Leave a comment below.

My family jokes about how I cry at everything, and I mean everything happy or sad occasions. I don’t even have to know the person.

I am right there with you. Glad I am not the only one. 😉

Fun list! The sad ASPCA dog commercials always get me. I have to change the channel. 🙁

    • Jessica February 20, 2016 at 11:14 am

Me too! I really don’t understand why they have to show me all that. You had my money with Sarah and the cute dog in the beginning. haha.

I’m a crier too! We call it the Rollins gene because all the women in my family tear up over ridiculous things! It’s just a thing that happens…

My family are all “squealers” when we are excited. My cousin’s husband says he hates Christmas time because its all loud women squealers.

I cry at some pretty silly things too. Award shows sometimes get me, and I’m right there with you on the curtain calls. I was a performer too, so that’s probably why.

Oh, yeah. When they make their speeches I will cry with joy for them.

This is a cute list! For me its the most random things, but there are certain commercials that always get me.

    • Jessica February 20, 2016 at 11:47 pm

It is a total “girl thing” and a gene I wish I didn’t inherit because I feel like such a sap(and it’s terrible for my makeup. Lol)

I love this post! I’ve never really thought of how many different things are such tear jerkers. Like you, my heart can’t take the ASPCA commercials. The second one comes on, I flip to a different channel. That marketing is ridiculous.

    • Jessica February 20, 2016 at 11:49 pm

Thanks, girl. It’s becoming so frequent, I thought I would keep track. Haha
I agree 100%. I just wish they would stop with those sad commercials. The my would be heartbreaking enough showing unhurt puppies and that sad song.

I’m a total crybaby too, especially when pregnant! I’d rather have too many feelings than none ☺️

    • Jessica February 21, 2016 at 8:53 am

Absolutely! Great way of thinking about it. I can’t even imagine me pregnant. I would be an emotional mess.

  • Chrissy February 21, 2016 at 12:37 pm

I am a total crybaby as well. Especially when I am about to get my period the hormones make me cry pretty much about anything! Loved this and can totally relate!

I am so much worse around my time of the month too. Great point! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.

There are so many things that make me cry like beautiful scenery, songs, poems, viewings (even if do not know the person), happiness etc. I think it just makes my life richer.

    • Jessica February 21, 2016 at 6:25 pm

Songs and scenery get me too! I like thinking of it as a way that makes life richer! Thanks for the perspective. 🙂
