Last year on my 29th birthday, I posted a list of thirty things everyone should do before turning 30. This year has flown by, and I cannot believe that on Friday I will be entering a new decade in my life. Even though I didn’t accomplish all 30 things on my list, I feel pretty good about what I did. Thirteen out of thirty is not great, but I still have more time to work on them. Life is all about success and failures, because you learn a lot from the times you don’t accomplish a goal. Here is my honest update on how I did.
30 things to do before turning 30
1. Learn something new
I wanted to learn how to sew and never actually did. This is still something I want to try to learn soon. Maybe I can teach myself during our long drives in Maeve this summer.
2. Visit a new foreign country
We visited Greece for 2 weeks last summer and had the most magical time. Read about Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini. My twenties were full of visiting foreign countries, road trips in the United States, cool cities, and beaches. I can’t wait to see where we go next.
3. Run (at least) a half marathon
Unfortunately, I was unable to accomplish this goal, but it is still one of my goals for 2017.
4. Spend the weekend in the state capitol
5. Go hiking/camping
6. Girls’ trip
Check. One of my best friends Hannah and I went to Mexico and it was the perfect little getaway.
7. Spend a day local wine tasting
No. I am still not sure why this one never happened.
8. Make a dream come true
Colton started a new job and has been so busy, so we haven’t had time to open the little shop yet.
9. Break a record
Not this year.
1o. Learn a new dance
I guess the dab doesn’t count on this one, however I did take several barredio classes this year and worked on my dancing skills.
This one may seem strange, but I have needed my wisdom teeth removed since I was a teenager. I finally did it! You can even see my post-op video here.
12. Learn to bake/cook something
I wanted to learn how to bake the chocolate avocado cake from Mexican sugar, but I have taught myself several other things, including this copycat stuffed avocados from Urban Rio.
13. Accomplish a career goal
Love You More Too did way better than I ever imagined in the first year. You can check out some of the things I learned blogging the first year.
One of the most amazing things I have experienced. Everyone should try this at some point in their life.
15. Solo photoshoot
16. Break a bad habit
I am currently in the process of breaking my habit of nail biting. Better late than never! Honestly, it’s been fun watching my nails grow a little every day.
17. Meet someone you admire
Initially, I meant this goal as meeting a celebrity, however I realize I meet people I admire all of the time. Blogging has introduced me to some of the most determined, kind-hearted, food-loving, fun and daring people. Each person I have met through this industry has had an impact on me and I am so grateful. I would love to list out each person and their blog individually, but I know I would accidentally leave someone off and feel horrible. Between Dallas Fitness Ambassadors, Blog and Brunch DFW, Dallas Blogger Brunch, Plano Magazine’s list of bloggers, and all the meetups in between, the Dallas blogging community is fantastic.
18. Accomplish a physical goal
I still cannot do 30 pushups without dropping to my knees, but I am building up my strength. In barre, I use the 3 lb weights more than 2 though (don’t roll your eyes at smaller weights until you try it, please).
19. Complete a 30 day yoga/stretch challenge
No. My body needs stretching and I still haven’t made it a priority (just being honest). This is something I want to work on this year.
20. Eat vegan for a week…
21. Try a new ethnic restaurant
A few times this year I have tried sushi, which is a big deal for me. However, I still haven’t expanded my restaurant tastes, despite Colton asking and trying.
I still haven’t started it, but I have kept a succulent alive for 10 weeks so far. We have to build a garden up to keep Chuck and Lucy out of it, so this is a large project we haven’t taken on yet.
23. Complete a list
I wanted to complete this list, but it changes periodically. We have been great at trying new and fun restaurants, but haven’t been to all of them.
24. Mission trip/work
We have been blessed to be able to help out with several friends going on mission trips, but not go on any ourselves yet.
25. Use up gift card balances
Yes!! I got rid of all of them/used them all up.
26. Organize old files
I got rid of my filing cabinet and will be working on weeding through the files this summer. Yay for progress!
My goal was to read 8 books, but I didn’t close. I read a few, so hopefully the road trips this summer will be a chance for me to slow down and read.
28. Make something
Not that I intentionally made from Pinterest.
This is something I have been working on slowly but surely. It will be finished by the end of the summer.
30. Write a thank you card to 30 people
I shared thank you note etiquette and wrote several cards this year, but not any just because.
