Thirty things to do Before Turning 30

April 29, 2016

Thursday, I turned 29.  Since I have been excited about turning 30 since I was a little girl, I figured I would make a list of 30 things to do before turning 30.  Some of the things are unlikely to be completed in a year, but why not try? Some of my daily goals are to drink more water, continue working out, eating healthy, and being more intentional with people around me, but these 30 things stand out (please excuse the superficiality of some of the things on the list).  Without further ado…

30 things to do before turning 30

1. Learn something new

I want to learn how to sew so when we pop a button, beltloop or get a hole I can fix it.

2. Visit a new foreign country

Traveling is my favorite.  This year we have an epic trip planned to my dream destination…Greece.

3. Run (at least) a half marathon

I started the year with wanting to run a marathon, but with recent events I think a half will be more likely.

4. Spend the weekend in the state capitol

Confession:  I have never been to Austin.  We have driven through it as a kid, but never stayed for a long period of time.  Colton and I shot a wedding in Austin (non-city side) but were busy the entire weekend at the retreat. I want to enjoy the Austin life for a weekend.

5. Go hiking/camping

I haven’t camped in a long time and Colton has been asking to go for years.  This is the year we should do it!

6. Girls’ trip

Last girls trip in my twenties… yes!  This summer I am headed to Mexico with one of my besties and cannot wait!

7. Spend a day local wine tasting

I have had wine in California and Italy, but I haven’t tried a ton of Texas wines.

8. Make a dream come true

This is the year I will create something to sell and open a little store.

9. Break a record

It has been my dream for a long time to break a world record.  This time I am not going to be as specific. Any ole’ record will do.

1o. Learn a new dance

Although I don’t have one in mind, I want to learn a dance… any dance.

11. #Adult

It may be a good idea for me to finally have my wisdom teeth removed before 30.

12. Learn to bake/cook something

The chocolate avocado cake at Mexican Sugar is my favorite food on the planet.  I want to learn to make it.

13. Accomplish a career goal

I would love to hit a few personal goals on this blog in the next 12 months.

14. Skydive

Who doesn’t have this on their list?

15. Solo photoshoot

This is actually something that I have planned already.  I hate taking pictures by myself, but now is the youngest I will ever be.

16. Break a bad habit

Nail biting. Must. Stop.

17. Meet someone you admire

A couple of weeks ago Lauren Conrad was in town doing a book signing and I am furious that I didn’t go.  This year, I will jump on an opportunity to meet someone I admire.

18. Accomplish a physical goal

By 30, I want to be able to do 30 push ups without stopping or getting on my knees.

19. Complete a 30 day yoga/stretch challenge

I lack in flexibility and I think this would help.  Not sure which one I want to do, but I will keep y’all updated.

20. Eat vegan for a week…

just to prove I can (and experiment with different foods)

21. Try a new ethnic restaurant

I have never had Indian food before.  Colton sometimes suggests it, but I am a sucker for Mexican when we eat out.  This year, I will say yes at least once.

22. Plant/Grow/Garden

This is the year I would like to start my herb garden.

23. Complete a list

One of my 2016 goals was to eat at every restaurant on this list.  That is still a goal  (and I am only 1 in. I have a lot of work to do).

24. Mission trip/work

Although I may not be able to take a mission trip in the next year, I would like to get involved with some mission work in my area.

25. Use up gift card balances

I have about 15 gift cards with under $10 on them.  (Honestly some have less than $1).  This year, I will use them all

26. Organize old files

We have a filing cabinet in our house that has not been organized in years (I still have paid bill notices from our apartment from six years ago)

27. Read

My personal goal is 8 books. This may not seem like a lot, but between blogging, working, cooking, cleaning, working out, and more…reading is not a priority for me.  Usually I read a ton during the summer, but slack off once school starts back up.

28. Make something

With all of the inspiration on Pinterest, I want to DIY several projects I have saved.

29. Simplify

Along with the organization goal, I want to go through and donate/sell things I don’t use/need.

30. Write a thank you card to 30 people

Instead of texting/emailing, I want to be better about handwriting cards and notes to the people who mean the most to me.

What’s on your bucket list before turning 30? 40? Comment below!

#11 is funny. I’m 34 and still have my wisdom teeth… and no plans to ever have them removed! Good luck accomplishing everything on your list!

    • Jessica April 29, 2016 at 11:22 am

Mine hurt my mouth off and on so bad. I am ready to be done with them. 😉

  • Caroline April 29, 2016 at 9:35 am

I’m 30 on Sunday. If I’m honest, I didn’t have a bucket list because I thought I’d be in my twenties forever, yet here I am. Maybe by the time I’m forty I’ll have grown up enough to have purchased an iron, a sensible coat and won’t be living on sandwiches!

    • Jessica April 29, 2016 at 11:23 am

haha. I need a coat and to learn to iron too. My husband still thinks hes 25 and would like to stay that way forever. 😉

  • Jill @ RunEatSnap April 29, 2016 at 10:17 am

I have done a lot of these but I better get to work. I am turning 30 in June! I am going to Europe for 3 weeks so I will be ringing in the new decade in Greece!!

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:05 pm

What a fun way to ring in the new year!! I can’t wait to hear what you think about it. You have plenty of time to accomplish so many things before and after 30!

  • Sara Strand April 29, 2016 at 10:31 am

I had a 30/30 list! I keep thinking maybe I should do a 40/40 list but I’m 34 now, with soon to be four kids, so all of the things I’d really want to do aren’t financially realistic. Or time realistic, either. Bummer. But I went skydiving and it was AMAZING. It was really one of the coolest things I’ve done ever.

    • Jessica April 29, 2016 at 11:24 am

I can’t wait to try it! Even with the kids, you should make a 40/40 list. You never know what you will accomplish/cross off.

  • Sheri April 29, 2016 at 10:38 am

These are great tips, and although I am 33 now, I got most of these done before turning thirty, still have a few on the list to go. Like the half marathon…might have to push that to my things to do before turning 40 list, LOL.

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:07 pm

That’s awesome! It’s very unlikely I will be able to do all of them, but it will be fun to reflect back next year to see what was accomplished.

  • Cara April 29, 2016 at 11:12 am

This is a great list! Greece sounds like an awesome trip! 🙂

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:10 pm

I can’t wait!! My husband and I do a trip together every year for our anniversary. This year will be my dream vacation.

  • Danielle Greco April 29, 2016 at 11:57 am

These are all great goals!! You’re gonna have a super busy year! Confession : I didn’t even know Austin was the capital! haha I totally thought Dallas was!! Who knew :). I love the mission trip goal, that’ll be a fun one. And the wine tasting! I just went to san fran and wow wine tasting is a blast! Happy Bday!

It’s always a busy, but this year in particular will be fun.

I am terrible with state capitals except my own. haha. Wine tasting in California was the best experience.

Thank you for stopping by!! 🙂

  • Rebecca Hicks April 29, 2016 at 1:33 pm

I LOVE this! Such a good idea to set goals for your new year of life (ha… so cheesy when I say it that way). But seriously, I think these things are awesome! And my favorite is the gift card balance thing… I have the same problem!!

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:16 pm

haha. Thanks, gorgeous. Gift card balances are totally #teacherproblems haha

  • Jessica April 29, 2016 at 1:55 pm

Such a great list!! I need to add some of these to my bucket list 🙂

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:33 pm

Thanks, girl! I hope you do!

  • michelle mink April 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm

i will be thirty in four years so this definitely has me thinking. i would really love to accomplish a physical goal before then

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:25 pm

You can accomplish so many in 4 years!! I am certain if you set a physical goal, you will accomplish it. 😀

  • Chelsea April 29, 2016 at 2:56 pm

I’m turning 29 in 2 weeks and it blows my mind how close I am to 30. I used to think 30 was old! I have been thinking about writing a “before 30” bucket list and I love your approach to it!

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:26 pm

Strawberry Wine just popped in my head. haha. “I still remember…when 30 was old.” You should for sure do it!!

  • Shannon April 29, 2016 at 3:18 pm

Love this! I so badly need to make a list, especially since I’m coming up on the 6 month mark (eek!). Might have to steal a couple of your ideas 😉

  • Ashley April 29, 2016 at 4:16 pm

That’s a really great list! I’ve done a lot of things on here, but still haven’t managed to make it to another country. Maybe by the time I’m 35 🙂

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:37 pm

Thank you, Ashley! Make it happen, girl. 😉

  • Ashley April 29, 2016 at 7:29 pm

This is an amazing list! You have inspired me to start my own before 30 list! At the top? Visiting a foreign country! Greece sounds amazing!

    xo Ashley

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:38 pm

I can’t wait!! It’s somewhere I have been wanting to see for a while now.

  • Maegan Clark April 29, 2016 at 9:14 pm

I like your list! I turn 30 in June and from 29 to 30 it goes by so quickly

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:27 pm

It seems like each year older I get, it goes by faster and faster. Embrace your 30s, girl. You will rock it!

  • suzanne April 30, 2016 at 5:56 am

Such a great list! And a cute idea. Enjoy your 30’s! 5 years in, I can truly say that my 30’s are so much better than my 20’s 🙂

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:28 pm

I can’t wait!! That’s exactly how I think I will feel. Thank you!

  • Chris Huston April 30, 2016 at 3:12 pm

I love this list! And Happy Birthday! I think everyone should make a list like this on their birthday. We would get sooo much done:)

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:31 pm

Thank you! It seems like a birthday to birthday list may be easier to accomplish and less pressure than a new year’s resolution list.

  • Bella B (xoxoBella) April 30, 2016 at 5:47 pm

These sound like amazing goals! It will be fun checking each one off. I want to make a similar list for my 20s.

    • Jessica April 30, 2016 at 6:32 pm

Do it, girl! I know. The best part will be reflecting next year on what I was able to accomplish. 🙂

  • Nicole Todd April 30, 2016 at 7:21 pm

I love your list and I way past 30…you will love Austin and want to move there. My sister and her fiancé have a doughnut shop in North Austin off of 620 called MS Doughnuts and they make the best doughnuts ever! I love the last one about thank you notes. People always comment when I send them. It’s becoming a rarity. I sure miss you at Hanby! HappyBirthday!

    • Jessica May 1, 2016 at 8:31 am

Thank you, Nicole!! Miss y’all too. I will for sure have to check out the doughnut place if we go.

  • Elisabeth April 30, 2016 at 11:03 pm

The Austin Antique Mall has some pretty neat stuff. Fredericksburg has A bunch of wineries. Getting lost in Hill Country is the best!

    • Jessica May 1, 2016 at 8:32 am

My husband loves fredricksburg, but has never been as an adult. That may be where we go!

  • Tisa Jackson May 1, 2016 at 11:14 pm

I wish I had a ‘bucket list’ for when I turned 30…great idea!

    • Jessica May 2, 2016 at 8:27 am

Thank you!! We will see how many I get accomplished. 🙂

  • Alison May 2, 2016 at 3:19 pm

What a lovely list! I hope you get through them all – I’d love to run a half marathon too. Your girls trip sounds amazing too! I’ve been to Greece a few times (I live in the UK), you definitely won’t be disappointed.

    • Jessica May 2, 2016 at 4:52 pm

Thank you!! I can’t wait. That makes me so happy to hear that you enjoy it.

  • Lindsey May 3, 2016 at 7:12 pm

Love this! I want to look for a 30 day yoga/stretch challenge too!

    • Jessica May 4, 2016 at 8:15 am

Yay! I am hoping June will be my month! 🙂

  • Tamara May 3, 2016 at 9:59 pm

Love the thank you card idea!

    • Jessica May 4, 2016 at 8:15 am

Thanks, dear! I need to get started on it. haha

  • Tania /// hillita July 25, 2016 at 5:54 pm

What a list you’ve created! It’s a good set of goals. I was thinking of creating my own as well but I’m already 3 months into being 29 haha Good luck on completing them this last year of your 20s!

    • Jessica July 25, 2016 at 6:40 pm

It’s never too late to set goals and make a list! You still have 9 months! That’s enough time to make a baby. haha
