This year, I have been challenging my body with personal training and trying new workouts. One thing I want to get more consistent about this year is stretching and getting in my morning workout. I always feel better when I work out in the morning, so even a quick little burst is better than hitting my snooze.

Tips

The most difficult part of creating a workout schedule is getting into a routine. Here are some tips to help you make the best of your week and workouts.

Plan out your week and schedule workouts around your events.

Wake up a few minutes earlier and complete a 15 min. workout. Here are some tips on how to do this.

Give yourself a rest day, and be ok with that. You can also try one of these ideas for an active rest day.

Find a workout accountability partner and check in with each other throughout the week.

Take classes at a local studio and be a part of a fitness community.

Hire a personal trainer. Seriously, this one has been a game changer for me.

My schedule

This varies week to week, and I am not always great about getting my Tone it Up (TIU) moves of the day in. There are times I need to rest, and I just take a day off, or do an active rest day activity. If the weather is bad and I can’t go for a run, then I try to do an indoor HIIT workout.

Check out the TIU moves of the day here.

Currently, I take cardio and barre classes at The Barre Code Plano, and I am working on toning with a personal trainer at LFT personal training.

These are great tips. I’m certainly lagging in how to schedule my work out time. With kids falling sick or something or other , it is always tough. How do you stick to a schedule on no sleep ? Please advise.

  • Annette Dattilo January 23, 2018 at 9:06 am

You are so right…the hardest part is getting in the routine. Once that us set it quickly becomes second nature. Thank you for the tips.

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 8:14 pm

      Of course! Thanks for reading!

  • Scott January 23, 2018 at 9:18 am

I’m impressed – I don’t think I could do it seven days a week. Right now 3-4 is my limit. I know it should be more, but just haven’t found the free time!

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 8:16 pm

I definitely take rest days when I need them. I just know if I have a plan for every day, I am more likely to workout when I don’t want to.

  • Susannah January 23, 2018 at 9:45 am

You’re so right- scheduling workouts leaves less time for excuses!

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 8:16 pm

      Absolutely!

  • Marcela January 23, 2018 at 10:41 am

Wow this is an impressive schedule. I use App 30DayFitnessChallenges. The hardest part for me is in getting into a routine

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 8:17 pm

That’s a great app! Getting in to the routine is the hardest part, but then it’s great.

  • Marjie Mare January 23, 2018 at 12:16 pm

That is the real motivation. I am trying to stick to 3 days a week, which I’ve been pretty consistent, maybe it’s time to increase to 4 days.

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 8:19 pm

You can do it! One more day will make a big difference but is easy to incorporate into your schedule.

  • Lauren January 23, 2018 at 12:51 pm

Planning out my workouts for the week is the most helpful strategy for me! I make sure to make my busiest days active rest days, so that I don’t feel guilty for skipping out. I also always do a morning workout on Fridays, so I can go to happy hour without skipping the gym. Your personal training looks like so much fun! Which location are you going to?

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 8:23 pm

I agree completely. That’s what I do too. I love doing Friday mornings at the barre.

I am getting personal training at LFT off Parker and the Tollway. It’s so fun!

  • Leigh Suznovich January 23, 2018 at 2:49 pm

The hardest part for me is definitely getting into a routine and holding myself accountable. Need to work on finding a partner to help keep me on track for sure!

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 8:25 pm

      Workout partners are great!

  • nefeli January 23, 2018 at 3:23 pm

Nice tips. Lovely tip I will definetely make a scedule and will make it routine. I always make schedule but never I follow.

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 8:35 pm

Thank you. It makes it so much easier.

  • Stephanie January 23, 2018 at 3:53 pm

I’ve been trying to work on a routine. The last few weeks I have been setting an alarm to wake up about 30 minutes before my boys so I have time to get in a 15 minute workout and shower before we hit the ground running. It works most days, except when they wake up multiple times in a night and I just can’t drag myself out of bed. I am going to check out the Tone It Up workouts you mentioned!

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:07 pm

Way to go girl! Sleep is more important than a morning workout in my book. It will always win. The TIU workouts are easy and can be done anytime throughout the day.

  • Sandy January 23, 2018 at 6:00 pm

The hardest part of working out for me is making it a priority. But I agree is you plan/schedule it, it is more likely I will do it! I like the routine you’ve shared! I will definitely need to try it!

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:07 pm

      Thank you so much!

  • AnnMarie John January 23, 2018 at 6:57 pm

It’s definitely a great idea to plan workout throughout the week so you won’t feel overworked or tired of working out completely. I really appreciate the tips that you shared as well! I’ve been trying to get back to the gym and get in shape.

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:08 pm

      Thank you so much!

  • Jazmin Williams January 24, 2018 at 7:04 am

I think getting into the routine is definitely difficult, but you’ve given some great tips! I don’t think I could do 7 days a week because of illness but good on you for really going for it!

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:08 pm

Totally understand, I plan for 7 so I can take active rest days and usually it ends up 4-5.

  • Jakub Husek January 24, 2018 at 8:53 am

This is a great post! And as others pointed out, kudos on the 7 day routine! I know I couldn’t do it!

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:11 pm

Thanks. It usually ends up being 5ish, but I like to plan for 7 if I can.

  • Joline January 24, 2018 at 9:59 am

Wow you’ve got it down! We do CrossFit 2x a week and in the summer we usually run or bike at least once a week. In the winter we hibernate and Netflix LOL! I think we should change that yes? 🙂

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:11 pm

I like the hibernating idea many days. 😉

  • Kristyn January 24, 2018 at 4:14 pm

I love that you named your alarms. I do the same thing. We need to have a workout schedule in place and stick to it.

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:12 pm

haha. Thanks girl. Workout schedules really do make a difference.

  • Brandi H January 25, 2018 at 3:17 am

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:13 pm

      It absolutely does.

  • Erica D Ardali January 25, 2018 at 6:14 pm

I really need to develop some sort of fitness routine. It seems really scary starting out. lol But I’m sure I can conquer it.

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:14 pm

You can absolutely conquer it. We are capable of much more than we think!

  • Brandi January 25, 2018 at 7:25 pm

Your workout schedule is so motivating! I love your tip about finding an accountability partner.

    • Jessica January 26, 2018 at 9:14 pm

Thanks, girl! Workout partners are the best.
