This weekend, we had perfect patio weather in Dallas. It was 78° and sunny all day on Saturday, so Colton and I decided to try out a new place for dinner. The only requirement we had was to find a spot with a patio. Whistle Britches recently opened in Plano/north Dallas and I have been excited to visit. Based on social media photos, it had a cool patio, so we came to a decision.
I wish I would have gotten photos of the inside and outside of Whistle Britches. It’s cute, industrial, and reminds me of a cool farmhouse. There are cozy seats that line the bar, indoor seating, and several tables outdoors on their gorgeous patio.
Colton stuck with beer, since they have a large selection of craft beers. If you prefer wine, they have several to choose from, including a few on tap. My favorite things to try are the specialty cocktails.
The el dorado is smooth and the cinnamon soda gives it a bit of spice. I am not a huge fan of whiskey drinks, and most of the specialty cocktails here are of the whiskey variety. This has a hint of whiskey flavor (from the Liquor 43), but it is delicious.
Another favorite is the como la flor, or hibiscus margarita. This drink is colorful, a little sweet (but not too sweet), and beautiful. Colton laughed at the black salt because it turned my lips and teeth black, but it was worth it.
I have been stalking Whistle Britches on Instagram for a while now. Everything looks good, so I knew it would be hard to choose. Each table gets a flight of sauces that includes honey, ketchup and a couple of specialty sauces.
The chefs at Whistle Britches created several cleverly titled appetizers to start your meal off on the right track. The “deviled” farm eggs come packed with sauces and a thin slice of country ham. It’s served on beds of cabbage and sprouts that make a tasty topping for each egg.
If you are a fan of chicken sandwiches, their menu offers 8 delicious variations of a chicken sandwich. The Yankee sandwich is the perfect choice for the buffalo sauce lover. They make it a bit spicy, but the cabbage slaw evens it out quite nicely.
Whistle Britches makes the best buttermilk biscuits I have ever had. In addition to the biscuit, the roasted half chicken is roasted in coffee-BBQ rub and topped with cilantro, pickled chilies, and tobacco onions.
I recommend you save room for dessert, because they make their own custard in house. If you like Oreos, then the Oreo custard is the perfect compliment to your dinner. To be honest, every dessert sounded great and I cannot wait to go back and try more.
